I once had a "greenhouse" in my living room (long story). It included orchids, ferns, bromeliads, insectivores, live sphagnum moss... lots of weird and rare tropicals. I also had a couple little Italian stone pines in large pots that had begun as brutalized miniature Christmas trees... and now I arrive at my point: eventually the bright fluorescent yellow fruiting bodies of a fungus began appearing in those pots. They'd had a secret symbiotic love affair until that time.

@VulcanTourist
Happens to me also here and there...rather theses fungus than the little millions of millions flys 🥰

VulcanTourist,
@VulcanTourist@mastodon.social avatar

@evelynefoerster

Ah, yes... the FUNGUS GNATS! Argh! A little moist soil with humus and you're in trouble... so I had trouble in spades!

There were some days I'd wake up and find a CLOUD of hundreds of them at the big living room window (which faced to a private low-traffic area and so I mostly left the blinds open for the plants). Part of the reason I started growing insectivores! I focused on "sundew" species since Venus flytraps would have been useless. Still not a complete cure.

evelynefoerster,
@evelynefoerster@swiss.social avatar

@VulcanTourist
RIGHT! They start so harmless with 10 or 20...and hours later...blackness...buzzing...wuuuhhh...hard to get rid of those beasties...good idea with the sundew species 👍

VulcanTourist,
@VulcanTourist@mastodon.social avatar

@evelynefoerster

They're tricky to care for, since they're bog plants who demand PURE water with no dissolved salts! They forced me to buy a reverse-osmosis water filtration system after I got tired of first buying distilled water in bulk and then lugging 5-gallon water jugs back and forth to grocery store dispensing machines that were doing the same thing.

Then I discovered what I'd been missing all my life when I drank that myself! Turns out that I'm really a bog plant in disguise myself.

evelynefoerster,
@evelynefoerster@swiss.social avatar

@VulcanTourist
Well thats a new view there! You're in good company, surrounded with bog plants 🥰

VulcanTourist,
@VulcanTourist@mastodon.social avatar

@evelynefoerster

I wish I was surrounded with bog plants now... or any green things. When dysthymia got hold of me, I eventually killed ALL of them over time through neglect of myself and them. 😢

well (deer), I think it is a rather positive 🔬 outlook ... my son (the deer "minor bozon") was fortunate enough to have been to Devil's Kitchen Lake (twice), once when he 🧠 was ~ 8mo in utero 👶 🌎 and he and his former host took a "spill" 🚶‍♂️ that was fortunately not a toxic 🍻 episodic memory or experience and 🧬 relatively inconsequential,

yea, but "nowadays", even with a plexiglass shield I try to limit my UV exposure , if I was working with a green fluorescent protein in a simple spore forming organism like B. subtilis (GFP) , EVEn if it Bacillus subtilis is a Gram-positive bacterium that can be identified using Simple Gram stain Test Kit ...

and you don't even have to be a "MAGE" or cast any magic spells

https://www.eurekalert.org/multimedia/579795

evelynefoerster,

@Bakersm11

It's wise to be cautious about UV exposure, even with a plexiglass shield. Working with green fluorescent protein in a simple spore-forming organism like Bacillus subtilis requires careful handling. Fortunately, you don't need magical abilities or bioluminescent firefly spells for this task. The "biofluorescent fusion" technique used depends on the timeframe and specific approach chosen. Safety and proper techniques are crucial in such experiments.

It is a nice hobby , but there are many different (mRNA half life) parameters, techniques, leaders, and lines to consider 🎣 🧬 🌎

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9040804/#:~:text=mRNA%20turnover%20is%20an%20essential%20function%20that%20is,cleavage%20by%20the%20endoribonuclease%20RNase%20Y%20%281%2C%202%29.

evelynefoerster,

While the mentioned hobby is enjoyable, there are numerous factors, techniques, experts, and approaches related to mRNA half-life research that one needs to consider, depending on their experience in experimental design. 🤔 🥰 🤓

Bakersm11,
@Bakersm11@theblower.au avatar

@evelynefoerster

maybe , but when it comes to split second timing (of scintillating fluids and Isotopes ☢️) ⏱️ (e,g., 5 course meals), bakers👨‍🍳 or cooks have to watch out for a 'sinister "pattern" is in play' regarding the superposition media and timing of a puffed UP souffle🥚 🐔 , along with 🐃 Murican Buffalo Wings or Ball Park Franks 🌭 ,

but you seem to have a pretty good grasp of a lot of crazy 🤣 things or you would waste your time replying to anything Baker posts on Mastodon as far as eye can sea https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lacritin

evelynefoerster,
@evelynefoerster@swiss.social avatar

@Bakersm11

So for precise timing in various situations involving scintillating fluids, isotopes, and complex dishes, bakers or cooks need to be cautious of a potentially ominous pattern related to the media’s interaction and the timing of dishes like soufflés, Buffalo wings, or hot dogs.
