So I’m testing my assumptions, but does anyone pirate games or software in general anymore? I mean I know they are out there the fitgirl repacks etc etc , but do people still trust the pirates stuff to not come with new and novel malware?
@Toxic_Flange Personally, I always prefer to put my time into FOSS software, but anecdotally: yes, people still do.
(For a lot of the same tools and same reasons I remember from 20 years ago: done {work, school, college, university} but still want {proprietary tool}.
Yet more reasons to lean on institutions to teach FOSS tools instead of proprietary ones (yes, even if they're "not as good").
@meejah Yeah same for myself, personally. I guess I should qualify my assumptions with, do people over a certain age pirate software and games as much as they used to anymore?:)
@Toxic_Flange I recently wow'd my son by showing him my 5.25" floppy discs containing the first C compiler I ever used (and, yeah, can't put them in a drive because I don't have one of those)
@meejah I got a 1541 that still works for my C64, but I've replaced with an Rpi :) I'd still like to get a 5.25" drive and build an era appropriate 486DX for fun.
@Toxic_Flange "kids these days" do not understand the pain of sitting on a floor surrounded by documentation on dead-trees, "really hoping" you get far enough this time for the modem to work so you can look up more shit ....with no pocket-computer for backup help
