The highlight is the excerpt from the CEO's quote:
"Our focus will be on new mobile players. Still, we don't want to forget the tens of millions of [Windows] users who will benefit from thousands of developers' experience. Winamp will remain the owner of the software."
This is literally Winamp demanding free labor from the OSS community like a fucking parasite, giving nothing in return.
@vl1 It only states the source code is going to be available, not that its going to be free software. Those two things are very different, and going by how they're not really giving out much info, I'm inclined to believe it's not going to be free.
@vl1 as much as i dislike current winamp this is super neat, i know there are some winamp fan continuation but all of them are closed i think, so having the source code would be great for people who like it to keep maintaining it and to possibly bring it over natively to other platforms
@vl1@daniela WACUP hasn't been a bunch of add-ons for sometime.
yes it started out as a plug-in pack but the current builds are for the most part standalone & re-use a small no. of the 5.666 plug-ins only because their replacements have yet to be created.
if winamp was going properly open source then the gen_ff / modern skin engine would be the only useful thing but the vague terms & wording don't seem to indicate a permissive license is likely so I'm going to keep on making my player instead.
