I want to change my pedals for better ones, but they're stuck. I've tried all sorts, including use of a strong person, heat, and WD40. They've only been on the bike for a couple o months, and i greased them when i put them on, so I don't know why they're so stuck. Any novel suggestions short of a grinder?#BikeTooter
@CloudyMrs A real penetrating oil. WD-40 is for water displacement not rusted bolts, use the right oil for the job (which is almost never WD-40 so I rarely use it despite how common it is). Liquid wrench is a common brand that is easy to remember (there are better, but I can never remember the names) Don't forget that often pedals have left handed threads on one side so you have to turn backwards.
@bluGill@CloudyMrs Plus Gas is a good penetrating spray if you can find it. I have a feeling that the makers of WD40 now make several different sprays including a penetrator. A trip to B&Q or Wickes will sort you out.
@CloudyMrs You might try removing the whole arm, soaking it in WD40 and then putting it into a vice (with padding to prevent damage) before applying a wrench on the now unmovable parts a decent angle.
A little too late now, but I always put a lithium grease onto the pedal axle before fitting them from new. There are two different metals involved (probably steel and aluminium) and corrosion has a horrible tendency to do this.
But post a photo of the crank where it attaches to the bike and we can probably help. Your local friendly bike shop will probably lend you the socket wrench that is probably required while you visit.
