Crusader Kings

caut_R, in CK3 - Can heresies occur in any religion, or are they limited to Christianity?

Disclaimer: I‘m no expert, if anyone‘s a pro on this, please listen to them.

AFAIK and IIRC, heresies can appear in any religion when the fervor drops low enough, at roundabout 50%. I vaguely remember getting heresies on my „Mother Of Us All“-playthrough in Africa (African faith) and Lingua Franca playthrough (Muslim faith), but it‘s been a while.

Fervor is pretty funky in the game cause winning holy wars, for instance, LOSES you fervor for some reason, so I guess the pope likes to nuke Christianity’s fervor which leads to lotsa heresies. There‘s a mod that „fixes“ that. Unless they changed how it works, I haven‘t kept up with patches.

Hope any of this helps. Again, I‘m no expert, just wanted to give you something to go by.

That makes sense. I’m curious to see what kind of heresies would appear for various Pagan or Eastern faiths.

From what I read, the Fervor threshold for heresies is 40%. I also saw a mod online that causes Fervor to gravitate toward a lower value, so that most faiths’ Fervor doesn’t stick at 90%-100% anymore. I’ll have to look into it some more. Thanks!

Computerchairgeneral, in "Uh oh. I think I just married my sister."

Hour 12 of Crusader Kings: "I married my sister, that's so messed up!"

Hour 300 of Crusader Kings: "So, if I marry my great-granddaughter to my third cousin's uncle and then marry them to the descendant of my illegitimate child then I can have a potential heir who is strong, genius, and has a claim to the Kingdom of France!"

CK III really does get you thinking like a Hapsburg.

NakariLexfortaine, in "Uh oh. I think I just married my sister."

Well, first, you have to get your horse into the position of Senator, then get her married.

After that, it’s pretty easy to get Rainbow Dash in the positions of Pope and Antipope.

Depending on the terms of the contest this may be illegal. Even advertising the contest with that photo may be illegal. Falconry licences cannot be used to earn money. He could get around this by using non-native birds but he’s holding a goshawk which is native.

I found it on his site - no donation or financial payment of any kind was required to win. Sweepstake entries were free.

I know I’m late to the party, but I’ve got to share.

Designated my 10-year-old son as my heir (absolute crown authority) because he had good congenital traits and one virtuous trait already.

Less than a year later, in the middle of an offensive war, I die from random harm at age 50. Young son inherits, immediately plummets into debt because he doesn’t have the perks and domain to support the army that his father did.

His siblings and cousins all start fighting over the throne. Forced to surrender both the offensive war and the claimant war, reduced to a mere duke within his own kingdom.

Viciously bullied by a relative, takes the Paranoid trait because Craven is a sin and I’ve had bad experiences with Shy. Didn’t realize just how bad Paranoid was for stress management.

Several older siblings die in the ensuing civil wars. Because of the Paranoid trait, the prince succumbs to a stress-induced heart attack at the tender young age of 13.

CK3 is pretty unique. There are a couple of knock-offs, but most lack the depth or polish. There's Imperator: Rome by the same company that hits some of the same notes.

Lot of in-depth mods for CK3 - the Elder Kings II is out, which turns CK3 into a fantasy game.

buckwheat, in Renewed Jihad makes no sense...?

Seems like one of the many things that Paradox frankly didn’t prepare for. I’m fairly certain that when this event fires, by default it chooses the Sunni Caliph as the leader calling for the renewed Jihad, regardless of the tenets present in the Caliph’s preferred flavor of Sunnism. The Jihad-renewal event seems to have been cobbled together back on release when the game was about as fleshed out as freshly flayed skeleton, and Paradox never really got around to expanding or just modifying it to account for, say, the Sunni Caliph just really not believing in religiously-justified warfare. I would hope they would get around to reworking the systems at play here, but I also wouldn’t wager so much as a half-eaten bag of corn chips on it.

cjoll4, in CK3 Question - Player Heir has wrong government type
@cjoll4@lemmy.world avatar

I guess I could try to imprison her, save-scum to make sure she refuses, win the war against my tyranny, and then revoke her title as valid punishment for revolting against me. But that would be wildly out-of-character and senselessly destructive. I really hope there’s another way I’m not seeing.

qwrty, in How are the titles of territories determined?

I couldn’t find anything, but if I had to guess, it has something to do with the title holders culture.

cjoll4, (edited )
@cjoll4@lemmy.world avatar

That’s a good observation. Since making this post I bought the Royal Court DLC that lets you hybridize cultures, and I found that “Naming practices” are part of the aesthetic options for cultures.

I have the same primary titles on my current run as I did on my previous run, but this time I have a Russian-Finnish hybrid culture instead of straight Finnish; and my titles are Tsardoms and Grand Principalities instead of Empires and Duchies.

EDIT: After playing around with it some more, I’m pretty sure it’s the Heritage that determines the name of titles, regardless of Naming Practices. On my new run I have an Afghan/Rajasthani hybrid culture. Upon adopting the Iranian Heritage from the Afghan culture, my title switched to Shah, despite retaining Rajasthani Naming Practices and the Gurjar language.

cjoll4, in I knew I couldn't defend against the Mongols in open warfare...
@cjoll4@lemmy.world avatar

Update: my leper grandson did not survive childhood, but it’s okay. I was able to preserve my alliance with the Mongols through further marriages, and to my surprise, the new Khagan’s family has even converted to my faith (Ukonusko i.e. Finnish paganism, if you’ll believe it).

If everything works out, my player heir in two generations will be the Khagan.

caut_R,

That‘s why I love this game lol, these kinda summaries often sound like a fever dream

cjoll4,
@cjoll4@lemmy.world avatar

IKR? I never expected Finnish paganism to spread so far beyond my borders. It’s not just the Mongolian Empire. I think it’s actually the dominant religion in the world right now by number of counties.

After researching the scripted behavior of the Mongol Empire collapsing and the bugs it can cause for player characters, I’ve decided to play it safe and NOT let the future Khagan of my dynasty inherit my primary title.
