Interesting locomotives. I always forget that the successful Centennials had not-so-successful predecessors. I’m sure they seemed like a good idea to UP at the time. Going back to steam days, the railroad always had a thing for stuffing the most power they could on a single frame.
So many cool and interesting Baldwin locomotives from the early diesel years. They were the most successful steam locomotive builder in the world for the first half of the 20th century, but their diesels never gained traction in the market.
Yeah, it's sad how Baldwin, and then eventually Alco fell off. Two of the big names in Steam that just couldn't find a place in the diesel era. Also, don't worry about the double-post, it's just more Fediverse growing pains!

One of these can be found at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth, MN! They even use it on excursions, it's usually the power for the Duluth Zephyr, which runs from the museum to the edge of Duluth & back. It's amazing to be able see such a rare specimen up close.
35 subscribers! How about that? I'm happy to see our little corner of the fediverse grow. This is my first time running an online community of any sort, so I don't really know what I'm doing. Hopefully everyone's happy with the direction our little community is headed. I want this to be a friendly, laid back place where we can share in our common interest, so any feedback to better achieve that goal is greatly appreciated :)
I'll keep sharing what I have to get some content in here, but it's going to be mostly US-centric as that's what I have. If you happen to have anything from your locality, feel free to share! I'd love this magazine to become a showcase of all the railroads that the world has to offer.
Love me a high hood. Thanks for your work to get this community off the ground. I'll try to contribute some of my photos when I have a chance but, like you, they're from the US and newer than the cool vintage photos you've been posting.
Yup, you can’t beat the style of an old fashioned high hood! I definitely appreciate your help getting things moving around here, and the modern stuff is just as welcome as the old school.
The best thing on two rails!
