I don't mind them joining Overture... but it is kinda weird to me that they're not nor have they ever been corporate member of the OSMF... which is like.... Their entire business revolves around OSM yet they never contributed to OSMF.... and now they're paying Overture... hmm
@thibaultmol serious question: did anyone from OSMF ever seriously ask them? I mean not just a random email or sniping comment on social media. I mean engage in a serious bizdev dialog with them? That is what it generally takes to get a large org to spend a meaningful chunk of money.
While someone like Developement Seed really Should Know Better™, it's possible Niantic didn't know. The OSMF has tried to have WGs for new Local Chapters, but I don't think there's any “OSMF Corporate Member Encourager”.
@amapanda@freyfogle@thibaultmol there's a fundraising cmte within the board and CWG, now, that understands that's how it works, and is trying to do that approach, but it's slow going. Networking via people from the community who may have worked at these companies is ideal.
I buffed up the wiki page that A shared, and Mikel M. and I also made a "one sheet" that's targeted for companies that helped us get the $150k from MSFT. I can send it to anyone who might want it. Let me know!
