Why is a fortune for the ? 😒

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@helligbird Are you able to buy from Amazon UK? They have it on sale for £35.99, just picked it up myself.

helligbird,
@helligbird@gamepad.club avatar

@SimonSays If that price was in Euro, I'd buy it. But in pounds, even with the discount, I'd be paying about the same I'd pay if I ordered from here, because of VAT and all that. To me, the game is about 51.7 GBP with postage included, according to the conversion I made. Does it sound expensive to you, or is it just me?

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@helligbird That does sound expensive to me, for sure. I didn't realise you got stung so much on VAT and postage. Not worth it if it's the same price as what you'd end up paying locally without a sale.

helligbird,
@helligbird@gamepad.club avatar

@SimonSays I figured. That price is what I get if buying from here. From Amazon uk, I'd pay 47.83 with shipping and vat included. It's expensive but impressive that it's cheaper than buying here.

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@helligbird Ah okay! It's normally £55 here when not on sale so it's a pretty good discount right now for people here.
Fingers crossed you get a similar discount shortly.

helligbird,
@helligbird@gamepad.club avatar

@SimonSays Norway is a country with roughly 5million people with no gaming culture whatsoever. By using the second-hand marked I see the same faces constantly. I feel like I know these people, we aren't many. We pay a lot for games and keep things going. It's a miracle that we get physical games here at all. Baten Kaitos had a price raise recently lol. Things don't get cheaper here. PS5 and Xbox games do however. For the Switch, just the non-jrpg ones.

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@helligbird That makes a lot of sense actually. I took a trip to Bergen several years ago and I remember thinking at the time there was an overall lack of videogame stores around. And that even a McDonald's was super expensive compared to what I was used to 😅

To be honest, I wasn't expecting Fate Samurai to go on sale here at all, let alone this quickly and for the discount it is. That's such a shame it's all the more difficult for you.

helligbird,
@helligbird@gamepad.club avatar

@SimonSays You visited my city then! Hope you enjoyed paying double for everything 😅 it's beautiful, like a little postcard city, but you have to eat noodles, not McDonald's loll Some years ago we still had Platekompaniet in the main avenue, but now it doesn't exist anymore. No videogame stores at all now. Maybe just in Oslo, but prices are high. We order games from Norwegian tech online stores or from Denmark or Sweden. I know all the stores since there's no Amazon here.

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@helligbird It's an absolutely wonderful city. We spent all our time trekking around various different places and enjoying the sights. We did end up going to grocery stores to buy some food and prep it each morning rather than eating out thanks to those prices 😂

That's insane you don't have any stores local to you and are stuck with online purchases.

helligbird,
@helligbird@gamepad.club avatar

@SimonSays I think it has a bit to do with the culture. I don't want to incur in generalizations because I'm not Norwegian, but people tend to have other hobbies here, be more outside, make things with their own hands. I may be wrong, it's just how I "read the room", in a way. In Portugal (where I am originally from) we have the stores, and the cheap games, we just don't have the money to buy them at the rate that I do here. There's many variables to account for ;)

helligbird,
@helligbird@gamepad.club avatar

@SimonSays It was nice that we had this conversation before I pulled the trigger. When I refreshed the store page I was looking at, the game just dropped 11%. It's not a lot, as it never should be lol Enough to convince me, though. I really need to play it. That art is way too gorgeous to go unseen. Now I'm waiting for it and for my copy of Persona 5 Royal. I need to start the game from scratch because it left Game Pass a while ago.

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@helligbird Ah that's awesome, what luck!

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@SimonSays @helligbird
Glad you were able to get a copy.
Since it’s KoeiTecmo and a licences title at that, there’s a good chance that it’ll become quite hard to find, at least on Switch.
Attack on Titan comes to mind.
Still weird how that one licenced Musou Game only got released in the US physically. I can’t think of it’s name right now as I’m in full zombie mode here at work. 🐌

helligbird,
@helligbird@gamepad.club avatar

@OutofPrintArchive @SimonSays I believe those physical copies for the Switch won't be around for long, no. People still have PS5, where I believe the game should run really well. And then Steam, when it goes on sale. KT had a pretty good sale on Atelier/Three Kingdoms games recently. But yes, Switch copies tend to disappear quickly and be very expensive from the get-go.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@helligbird @SimonSays
It feels like companies like Koei tend to take less risks on print runs for Switch since they cost more to produce and take much longer as well.

So I tend to try and pick them up a bit sooner just to make sure I don’t have to pay some scalper later on.

It’s a difficult balancing act though as I can’t buy everything that I want. 😅

helligbird,
@helligbird@gamepad.club avatar

@OutofPrintArchive @SimonSays That probably answers the question I had about why Switch games are more expensive. You also collect for PS4/5, right? I believe you still find many sweet games released for it, for good prices too.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@helligbird @SimonSays I actually don’t have a PS5 and I don’t even know if I’d ever get one.
The only game that interests me at this point is Returnal.
As for PS4, I’m only trying to grab the exclusives that I don’t see releasing on either Nintendo or Xbox.
I think I haven’t hooked up my PS4 in something like 4-5 years now. 😅

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@helligbird @SimonSays
I did adore my Vita though.
It was my favourite system for several years. Until Sony actively killed it. And I stuck with it for a couple years more even then.
I actually picked up Vita versions over their PS4 counterparts.

helligbird,
@helligbird@gamepad.club avatar

@OutofPrintArchive @SimonSays there's still a lot of people buying for the Vita and playing the games. It's how cherished that system is. I had the PSP but sold it when I moved. People say it's a jrpg powerhouse, just like the Switch. I'd love to see a comeback of Sony handhelds.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@helligbird @SimonSays
On the one hand I would love to see that, but on the other hand, I've been burned a couple time too many at this point.
It feels like they kill whatever parts I love the most about them, one after another.
Perhaps once Jim Ryan is finally gone, they will get better again, but at this point, I just don't trust them anymore.

helligbird,
@helligbird@gamepad.club avatar

@OutofPrintArchive @SimonSays I don't know the insides of the industry to have an opinion. I'm just thinking that with the popularity of handheld gaming, Playstation could bring back a new Vita and develop games for it. I have no idea why they decided to cancel those handheld avenues.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@helligbird @SimonSays
It all went downhill once Ryan took over and started cleaning house. Putting his own team in place.
Development on internal Vita games quickly came to a stop and the system was left to Indies and 3rd parties for support.
With the new cash-cow becoming PSVR instead.
Dev teams started getting shrunk or laid off entirely, with the focus squarely on AAA third person cinematic showpieces for the most part.
They lost so much variety and whimsy during those couple of years.

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@OutofPrintArchive @helligbird And now the only handheld they have is the really weird PlayStation Portal which ties you to the PS5.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@SimonSays @helligbird

A real sad state of affairs...

I still can't believe how quickly they bailed on the Vita...
Nintendo didn't do that with the WII U, or even the 3DS after the first really disappointing year, heck, they doubled down on it.
And look where it got them!

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar
helligbird,
@helligbird@gamepad.club avatar

@OutofPrintArchive @SimonSays Thanks! I wishlisted it on Steam. It's the only platform that shows.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@helligbird It's PS5, Switch and PC.
The trailer just went up as well:
