Most likely Phaeolus schweinitzii (dyer's polypore). Boxborough, #Massachusetts, 18 July 2015.

"As its common name suggests, the dyer's polypore is an excellent natural source of green, yellow, gold, or brown dye."

Fascinating, as I thought "Dyer" was a person's name. Although "schweinitzii" is from a person's name.
