Publishing this photo, I've almost DDoSed my home connection 😀 - images are stored locally and no CDN is in front of this, so my tiny 20 Mbit/sec outbound connection is full. When on the VPS, there weren't big bandwidth problems. But hey, this is a test instance!
This is different on the BSD Cafe instance: images are put on a different server which is behind Cloudflare
@fedops@stesnac exactly. All the known servers will contact me and pull the image. The same is happening with Mastodon, if not using an external S3 media server. But on the BSD Cafe I've set an external jail, behind Cloudflare, so media get cached almost immediately.
Maybe I'll study a similar solution here, even if I don't plan to keep the snac instance here, but I'll move it back to the VPS at the end of the tests.
@fedops@stesnac sure, it's different but NNTP is quite efficient. Old techs are generally more efficient as we were quite resource constrained at those times
