"Jako" for Ladaniva, representing #Eurovision experts AMPTV. It's bright, colourful, ethnic, amd seems to be performed on the blocks from Play School. Diaspora vote will get you so far, that it goes down a storm in the hall will help. Again, shinies.
#Eurovision promotes their lines of Official Tat. No mention of the CD, number 25 in a series - and I've got the lot of them!
"Hollow" represents LRT, who haven't made the Saturday final since 2016. Dons is the guy in the blue latex outfit and a giant hamster wheel. Incredible voice would pick up jury votes... but there are no jury votes tonight, and this might just fall through the cracks again.
"Zorra" from TVE, performed by Nebulossa - two esses, like Southend-on-Sea. She's brought her living room to the stage, a happy drummer, dancing lads in boots and corsets. It's an interesting spectacle, gets the crowd going, but not sure there's any song - which feels a fatal omission for the #Eurovision Song Contest.
"11.11" reps SMRTV, Megara perform in pink and black goth outfits. Very difficult to sing while rising from the floor, tongue out drumming, spectacularly wrong sort of shiny. This'll find its audience, and I really hope it gets a Saturday outing. Gloriously barking, uncompromising in its art, exactly where #Eurovision is in 2024.
"Firefighter" and GBP, so of course we're going to have fire on the backdrop, and walls of pyro. Nutsa Buzaladze's dancers seem to be lacking in PPE. Gentle lift pales in comparison to the Czech #Eurovision effort. Shinies at the start and finish.
"Before the party's over", RTBF surround Mustii with all the microphones like a jail. Builds the emotion so we deserve the climax. Bad shinies. Great song, really deserves to go through.
"(nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi", the EER song title is so long it pushes the band - 5MIINUST x Puuluup - off the stage. Loud and raucous folk-rap, very #Eurovision. On artistic merit, it's going nowhere; on televotes, who can tell?
"La noia" leans into its vines and twigs staging. San Remo means any RAI entry is great, Angelina Mango will get the "great song, not too out-there" centrist dad vote.
"Hurricane" is entered by KAN, performed by Eden Golan. Serviceable slow number, suspicious amounts of crowd noise there.
Ah, Scott Mills is still with us. When you gotta go...
"Ulveham" from NRK, performed by Gåte. Blue-green staging, not seen much of that. Band's glowering around in the dark and shinies, folk melody transmuted into hardcore rock by a singer who looks a bit like Taylor Swift. This is more like it! #Eurovision
"Europapa" for NOS/AVROTROS, Joost Klein sings about Europe and #Eurovision and has the biggest shoulder pads since the Dynasty revival. Completely bonkers, complete with the dancing bird in its wellies.
And the party ends by raising a glass to our friends who aren't with us tonight. Proost!
