So, with all the unfortunate news about redirecting folks from to focus on , amidst layoffs as well, I'd like to point out that @Vivaldi is not integrating AI in the foreseeable future: https://vivaldi.com/blog/technology/vivaldi-wont-allow-a-machine-to-lie-to-you/

And, I say this as someone who used and swore by Firefox since it was known as Phoenix. Over the past year, I've gotten to know Vivaldi, and it's now my daily driver.

Just upgraded my iPad to iPadOS 14.4 beta 2 and full #PWA support is still there as before (I’m in the EU), so perhaps this breakage is just for iPhone?

@baldur I share a lot of your concerns. I think #Deno as a project has good ideas and it’s been a joy to work with as part of @silverbulletmd. My concerns, similar to you:

  1. Are they taking up too much at the same time given their size?
  2. Monetization expectations must be significant and hard to deliver given their VC funding. And if they don’t, what then?

@baldur 3. Even though I’d argue their design decisions are better than the current state of node, is the delta enough to be worth it and won’t node slowly get there anyway?

@baldur even if ultimately the answer is “no” — likely Deno (and Bun, which I have similar issues with — if not worse) will have contributed to accelerating this development (to e.g. more web standard support) which is good.

For sure @phanpy is now my favorite #Mastodon client, the only thing it doesn't seem to do is keep my reading position in my timeline. It does to an extent (when you keep it open), but when the web app is paged out it all resets, and it doesn't sync across devices. #featurerequest

@cheeaun I've noticed that Phanpy adopts the page's background color in the title bar when used with "Add to Dock" in Safari 17 on macOS. Did you do anything special to set it up that way? I've been looking to get this to work in my app as well.

@cheeaun yeah tried that, doesn’t seem to be picked up with the dock version only inside regular safari. Anyway I’ll keep trying. At least I now know it’s possible.

We’re reaching an interesting stage of #PWA development. There are now two #ActivityPub PWAs (= web apps) that provide a best-in-class experience to those service (IMO): @voyagerapp is a beautiful #Lemmy client, and https://phanpy.social is the prettiest #Mastodon client I've tried so far where push notifications just work, even on iOS. Pretty cool! What enables this? Technically, CORS enabled APIs, and improvements on web tech on mobile recently.

I’m listening to this episode of @changelog on #OpenTF and I’m increasingly convinced that any type of tech infrastructure has to be and remain #OpenSource. The unsolved problem does remain funding these projects. Often the model is either large corp backing or VC funding.
