I think my main unpopular opinion is that I don't like Firefox, I feel like it rides the "it's not Chromium" wave too hard, and puts low effort into actually improving the browser, opting to focus on things like Colorways instead of heavily requested features.

Not being Chromium just isn't enough to convince me to main it, and yeah there's privacy in Firefox, but you have to turn off like 3+ toggles of telemetry in various places in settings to reach it.

synthphaser,

@nyaa i honestly like FF because of its principles. i was running brave for a long time and it worked, but i also like the idea of more web engine diversity as well. i avoid vanilla chromium bc i really, really don't trust google.

oh plus when u go fullscreen on a video on FF it fades in and out whereas chromium looks all janky imo LMAO

i'm glad the community is tighter here (compared to everyone being dumped in the same place lol) which i think adds so much to the experience and appeal

So here’s my thought on the Mastodon/Bluesky divide.

Try every network so you know it’s out there. Know that there are some people who want certain things out of their social media. Know that those may not be the things you want.

I don’t particularly love image-driven social media, so I mostly stay off Instagram. I value openness, so I found a home here.

There are some nice features on Mastodon. There are some nice features on Bluesky. They may not be the things you, personally, want.

synthphaser,

@ernie my hypothesis is that there are two main reasons for that (they are closely related):

  1. ppl have been lead to believe that a text-based social network has to be just like twitter, or else it's not gonna work, or is bad (bc that's what they're used to)

  2. ppl are unwilling to see how a different service works and want it to capture the exact same experience they had before (no matter how good or bad it was)

synthphaser,

@Uraael all these comments supporting the idea that gaming is pretty much equal at this point i think is gonna make me switch over
