Just recorded an episode of the AGHN Podcast and the topic was stress management, expectations, and burnout — something I suggested because, well, that pretty much sums up 2023 for me. I keep wanting to do stuff, I keep making lists and schedules for myself, and I feel motivated... but something always happens. At times it honestly feels like some cosmic force doesn't want me to do the things I want to do so it keeps throwing roadblocks at me.

I gave a talk at #RetroGameDays (a retro games event in Vejle, Denmark) last month about the history of Space Quest. It was a Danish event — and I'm Danish — so the whole talk was, surprise, in Danish. But there are English subtitles if you need them. 😝

It figures. Right after I make a video announcement of getting my shit together, life throws a curveball from out of nowhere: Two days ago, my son started complaining (actually, crying) about his teeth hurting. He has cavities already (inb4 speculations: unfortunate genes, not lack of dental care). He's gonna have to have some of his teeth pulled next week. Poor little dude is already missing his two front teeth. 😢

I feel like music genres sometimes need to be split by music and lyrics.

Like sometimes I'm listening to something chill but the lyrics are just punk AF and it's like... "Oh, my problem with this kind of music is it's mostly just singing about dumb shit I don't care about. This is pretty damn sweet,"

Or sometimes there's this sweet heavy track, but it's about having sex and I just have to purge that shit from my playlist.

Hamsters have sex. Whoopity-doo! It's not worth singing about.

(Disclaimer: I understand we're all wired differently. Listen to your sex music all you want, and if you like it I'm glad you have it to listen to. It just personally makes my eyes roll)

This demo of The 7th Guest VR looks even better than I imagined. The mechanics shown here, particularly the hand through the hat thing, are also super cool, but I also can't imagine them working outside VR, so my hopes of a non-headsqueezing version just dropped.

TIL there is apparently no way to emulate the CD-i version of The 7th Guest on PC because it requires a CD-i add-on called the Digital Video Cartridge. I checked three different emulators and none of them support DVC.

It's a real shame, too, because it looks like they re-rendered all the walking transitions in a much higher framerate than the DOS version, and I'd love to get some hi-res footage of that. It's fucking smooth as butter!
