Given the context around the bad joke, it seems like he was going for sarcasm, but it just came out like trash because he’s old and no longer on top of his game.

Imagine saying this 15 or 20 years ago when we still had lots of WWII vets alive. He’d be done.

In the 90s, rooftop solar was around 10-15% efficient. Now rooftop panels are closer to 20%.

I don’t know about that. That a LOT of people liked that reveal TED talk.

If this was half the price, could hold a charge, didn’t start fires, and didn’t pull your shirt down, then it would still be dumb, but you’d probably have enough people buying it to keep the company alive.

They’ve actually discovered that being out into compliance with data privacy laws is expensive.

simplejack,
@simplejack@lemmy.world avatar

Yes and no. If they get under regulatory investigation and are not in compliance with laws about storing minimal PII or deleting records that they said they deleted, then the fines are pretty bad. A lot of the regulatory fines scale with the annual revenue of a company, so even the tech giants can feel the pain.

The risk to the business for fucking around is pretty high. My guess is that some of this legacy behavior data just isn’t worth the risk.

Not until there is a democratic majority in the house. Impeachment starts there for federal judges.

simplejack,
@simplejack@lemmy.world avatar

State has nothing to do with it. She is an appointed federal judge. If she’s going to be removed, she has to be removed federally.

More specifically, impeachment proceeding for her removal would start in the House of Representatives… which is currently controlled by the GOP.

simplejack,
@simplejack@lemmy.world avatar

And you need the house to kick things off. And the house is controlled by the GOP.

They’ve been doing this, but because others have not been doing this, there is now regulation in this space.

Apple had to disclose this in writing to be fully compliant with PSTI.

simplejack,
@simplejack@lemmy.world avatar

All in all, Apple had to agree to this in writing to be compliant with PSTI. They’ve already been doing this for a long time.

This is kind of like asking the Fast and Furious franchise to agree, in writing, to talk about family.

Android and iOS developer here. Web and app.

I have so many damn phones floating around my damn desk. I have near old iOS devices that are still solid for web browsing.

The bigger problem is that mobile processors saw MASSIVE performance changes over the past decade, and apps that are developed for new silicon run like shit on old ass hardware.

In other words, performance with new apps is the pain I feel first. Browsing the web on an old iPhone 6 is generally fine.

Which is pretty rare for a commuter train system with tracks that are often underground or raised above road traffic.

simplejack,
@simplejack@lemmy.world avatar

lol. True dat. They don’t know that you have a wide stance, perpendicular to the train’s direction. You have to ride that bitch like a skateboard.

That airport is so weird. Feels like someone built a massive airport around a 90’s shopping mall.

They can take about 15-20 second to decelerate in an emergency. This is a link to some train geeks talking about it.

In my experience being stuck on a lot of light rail, those numbers sound about right. Those things never stop like a car when the e brake gets pulled. It’s too dangerous to stop them quickly since people are standing, walking, and sitting without buckles and headrests.

Its existence is also kind of proof that emergency stops are slow enough that people can remain standing and squeezing a poll with 5 fingers will suffice for safety.
