An animated visual showing how India will have more elderly than children by 2046. The share of those above 60 in the country’s population is pegged to go up from 10.72 percent in 2023 to 18.96 percent in 2046. Meanwhile, the share of children aged below 15 in the population is expected to come down from 24.9 percent to 18.83 percent over the same period. After reaching its highest share at 63.9 percent in 2038, the population of those aged between 15 and 59 is also expected to trend downward.

When did we lose our way?

In my DEL-BOM Air India flight today morning, a fellow passenger asks one of the crew if she was from Nagaland (she was from Assam). Then this man asks if her name is Indian. Her face turned from confusion to a fleeting sense of sadness before the professionalism took over.

Much to my shame, I was too shocked to react at the time, but I later apologised to her, as much for my inaction as for that remark.

This person seemed "well educated" & travelling in biz class.
