Gorsuch is defending Smith from compelled speech despite the fact that she never received an order asking her to design for a gay couple. That request came from a made up applicant. @kelleycs @ieatkillerbees it’s definitively unconstitutional. There is no “case or controversy” here. The case should be dismissed for lack of standing. This is the Supreme Court equivalent to an advisory opinion.

Tommy is going into intensive care for an intestinal illness that is prevented by a vaccine.

Tommy was vaccinated 2 days ago, the week after being adopted, but he was already infected by that time.

Mine and my sons autism were triggered by an extremely loud room. Enjoyed taking him to lunch at a quieter place instead. Sometimes having sensory issues isn’t all bad; it encouraged me to spend time with him in a way I wouldn’t have otherwise.

@emilygorcenski @Crell I spent time looking into building a consulting practice around examining these software failures. There’s a real need for an NTSB-like approach when software or projects fail to understand why and prevent future similar failures. Unfortunately I’m not sure the majority of software engineers agree with me.

When writing software, enable people to change their usernames.

You don’t know who might make their username based on their real name, then realize they need to change their real name, and are now stuck with a username based on their dead name.

So.... I'm not complaining, I'm happy that everything is powered by USB these days, but nothing ships with wall adapters anymore. I had a surplus for a while, but now everything looks very hodgepodge. Is there a middle ground? $5 extra (which is probably way over-priced, but whatever) for the wall adapter that at least matches?

There is no substitute for experience.

You can research, imagine, think, reason and build as much as you want. There’s no substituting having experienced something and translating that experience into a conceptual understanding of your current situation.

@ocramius the truth is you should probably be saying no way too often to make this a feasible or workable strategy.

Having lots of ideas is a good thing. But most ideas are bad and should be discarded. This means saying “no” a lot.
