"Israel’s military offensive in the Gaza strip has killed at least 36,439 Palestinians and wounded 82,627 since 7 October, the Palestinian health ministry said on Sunday."

The situation is bad, but why does every media outlet quote these bogus figures issued by an organisation that can't know and is controlled by Hamas?

C.f Ukrainians killed in over 2 years, and approx 10,000 glide bombs, indiscriminate daily shelling of civilians and missile & drone attacks on apartment blocks.

FANTASY.

Having lived in ME, known Iranians, Israelis (Jews & Arabs), Arab & Jewish Christians, and also lived in N.I. for nearly 25 years, I can say it's not simple and most violence other than pure self defence is pointless. I support a single Irish state for all of Ireland but think the IRA campaigns from 1916 onwards have pointlessly killed Irish & British innocent people and held back the reunification. More Irish died in post independence Civil war because of IRA than from British.
No easy answer!

"George Lucas ruined generations of writers."
Certainly Disney tried to not pay them when they bought Lucas.
I don't think good writers ever took much notice of Lucas/Starwars, except ones paid to write the content.
Alan Dean Foster did some fun books apart from the film tie-ins

Lunch
Pita heated, cut in half for two pockets.
Stuff with Italian Basil Pesto (pine nuts, not modern version with cashew nuts), sardines in brine (drained) and green olives stuffed with garlic.
Heat till basil pesto is warm, it's not so nice cold.
Alternatively use salmon, trout, pilchards, anchovies or carp (no flavour).
Use alternate to fish if you want vegan / vegetarian. It's only for a Catholic meat free Friday that fish isn't meat.

I derived this in about 1991 from an Italian recipe. We didn't know what chorizo was then, nor was it sold (available now), so cut up Irish Pork Sausages were used.

Sausagey Noodley Thing
Ingredients
500 gm pkt twist noodles
1½ lb Irish pork sausages
3 cans chopped tomatoes (with herbs and spices if possible)
3-4 cloves of garlic (sliced)
3-4 teaspoon dried basil
4 oz grated Mild or medium Irish 'Cheddar' cheese

Sorry for mad mixed units
Instructions next

Chop sausages into bites.
Save drained tomato juice.
Boil pasta while frying sausage pieces in about 3tbls olive oil.
Keep sausage pieces warm in an ovenproof dish
Fry garlic in oil until soft, then add basil and fry a little.
Add tomatoes; heat thoroughly.
Add tomato juice to the pasta when nearly cooked & boil.
Drain the cooked pasta & mix sausage pieces in.
Stir in the tomato, garlic, basil mix.
Tip into ovenproof dish, top with grated cheese & grill until cheese is melted.
Serves 6

Half eaten Sausagey Noodley Thing (about 3 servings left).

Food archaeology?

Lebanese style flatbread, 1/2 small jar Italian green pesto (Basil & pine-nuts not cashews cos they are South American), any toppings available in Europe/ME/Med 600 to 3000 years ago.
Pita and pizza are from same source, meaning 'flat bread'
This has salami & chestnuts as Romans liked pork and nuts.
1.5 min in microwave, or suitable time in an oven.
Olives & nuts & fish traditional.

Tomatoes were added to Italian recipes later.

I'll do a different one tomorrow.

My family have more of a clue. They think if would be great if TG4 (the Irish Channel in Ireland) and S4C (the Welsh one in Wales) and BBC Alba (Scotland Gaelic) did a co-production of my stuff.

Tonight I had anchovies (tinned in olive oil) and green olives stuffed with garlic as well as the chestnuts and melted cheese on top of the flatbread spread with basil pesto.
I heated it sufficient without the cheese and then melted it. Very tasty and filling. Best way I've ever had anchovies and nicer than on a regular modern pizza. The stuffed olives really improved it.

Yes, though some writers research well & have accurate background.
If you're reading an Alternate Fantasy England you don't expect so much accurate background. Recently read "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell" which also had the Peninsular War (magic roads for Wellington) and later a slightly more traditional Waterloo.
Some take things that were planned and didn't happen, such as airships to connect the British Empire. Abandoned due to R101. Germany wanted to use helium, but USA wouldn't sell it.

I've used the Apple Pencil on iPad, Wacom EMR on eink (reMarkable) and a Wacom on Lenovo X201. First had a Wacom in 1990s.
I like the kobo pen & compatibles (MSP/NTrig) on Sage best (8″). I found the 10.3″ reMarkable and Elipsa both too big and heavy. The Kobo models have true on device handwriting to text, similar to Nebo on an iPad.
I do most writing on a 23″ 4K LG screen that's like paper, but HDR coiour on a workstation with UPS. I use the Sage or laptop on rare occasions I'm out somewhere.

Guardian copying Wikipedia with Islamic comparisons in Christian articles. Poor journalism.
https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2024/jan/04/book-of-kells-psychedelic-monks-drugs-trinity-college-dublin

Also why suggest the monks were on drugs?

Book of Kells created c. 800 AD. Though made in Iona, the style dates to late 6th C and is typical of Celtic illumination. It's not like Islamic art at all.
Islam founded 610 (7th C.)
Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba: 765 - 987

Public Islamic art is mostly non-representational, except for the widespread use of spiralling plant forms.

|Not now in UK & Ireland, but was once for huts either for summer pasture (Bothy?) or charcoal burners (which would have used coppiced willow).
The willow sticks also often root.
It's in the Swallows & Amazons series (Swallowdale?) but the descriptions were of a past age and practices long gone when he was writing.
Certainly also in early Iron Age, Bronze age and Neolithic Ireland (dates differ from other regions).
