The PDP-10, a computer from Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), played an important role in early computing. It made time-sharing common, and even helped build the early ARPANET, the precursor to modern internet. On this day May 17 1983, DEC announced the cancellation of the PDP-10, marking the end of an era. The PDP-10 legacy lives on in hacker folklore, and the ALT key on your keyboard is a legacy from WAITS, an operating system that ran on the PDP-10.

In the style of a 'Captain's Log' from . here's a Log: Ship on lock down, crew confined to quarters. Foe identified: highly contagious, microscopic lifeform designated 'SARS-CoV-2.' Symptoms mild for now, but Sick Bay urges that caution is paramount. Crew morale high, maintaining communication via subspace channels such as Mastodon and IRC. Directives clear: isolation, sanitation, self-monitoring. Priority one: crew health. I will not succumb to this unseen enemy.

The has always wanted to sleep with me in bed but lately wants to be on the pillow instead. How does he let me know? He sticks his paw under my head as if to push me, like "hey move over" and I do. Then he gets onto the pillow and begins purring away, except I can't sleep when he's on the pillow because his fur is all in my face. And if I turn over to face the other direction to be free of fur? That's not allowed -- he'll go over to the other side and repeat the process.

My Asus VW202 monitor that I bought brand new in 2007 has unfortunately decided that it was time to die.

Thank you for your nearly 17 years of service, considering I spend almost every waking moment of my life behind my computer it probably had a running time of over 50k hours.

Or actually I might try to repair this thing tomorrow, maybe it's just a bad capacitor 🤔
