@datajake1999@dragonscave.space

I am totally blind, and I am interested in archiving rare software such as old screen readers and speech synthesizers. I am also an audio and mythology nerd.

Many years ago, their was a free sound effects website called ilovewavs.com that was up until the end of 2012. Fortunately, a fair amount of content is available through the Wayback Machine. On the slim chance anyone has archived the site before it went down, I would like to get in touch to get all of the data properly preserved.

I recently found the code that is responsible for the n'ehv bug in DECtalk 4.62. In ph_sort.c, There is an array that contains particular sets of phonemes and their duration's. One of these phonemes had a duration of 1190, and changing it to something much shorter such as 190 or 90 fixed the problem.
For all developers, don't forget to check your actual code for typos!

datajake1999,

@bgtlover @TheQuinbox Here is a sample of this bug in action.

I present to you a full DECtalk 4.60 build archive. This is created at the end of the official build process. https://datajake.braillescreen.net/tts/dectalk%20software%20and%20manual/460.build.7z

datajake1999,

@jamminjerry The installer that was used is Install Shield 3, so it won't run on modern Windows. The setup file for a given language is located in language\install\disk1.

datajake1999,

@seedy The swi95 directory is created at the end of the build process, and it contains things such as the demos you would download from the internet and the install files a customer would get if they purchased the software.

datajake1999,

@glaroc This build was created from the original source with no modifications, so the license code is included in these builds. The access32 versions work with NVDA as the addon initiates an Access32 license on startup. I have also created a SAPI5 build of this version of DECtalk which you can use with NVDA. That can be found at https://datajake.braillescreen.net/tts/sapi_voices/DECtalk%204.60%20R11%20SAPI5.exe

I did not realize there was a complete archive of Q audio still around at all? I'm interested. Then again I'm interested in preserving anything that might be remotely interesting. I always wondered how much data that sites stored in its heyday. I remember finding very cool radio jingles up there as well.

datajake1999,

@FreakyFwoof @kd6cae @jaybird110127 I actually have known about this for a while, I just haven't gotten around to downloading it.

This is an interesting blend of the Doom and Doom2 soundtracks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qeRKIKqJW8

Wow, I was bored.

datajake1999,

@remixman It is quite responsive considering the specs. I don't remember which processor it uses, however I know it is an ARM based CPU. It only has 64 MB of ram. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you are the type of person who does weird experiments like me.

datajake1999,

@bgtlover A PAC Mate is essentially a specialized Pocket PC running a stripped down version of JAWS.

datajake1999,

@MutedTrampet That is the final revision of 4.60, which had a different VTM than revision 8.

datajake1999,

@bgtlover We have the actual source code.

This song is still amazing 30 years after it was written, especially considering the limitations of the time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAZseYdRYLA

@ItsTrainingCatsAndDogs This implies that euthanasia requires at least a 24-bit data type.

Changes in the cumulative udpate for Windows 11, version 22H2: ■
This update affects the Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection security feature. The update adds more drivers to the database of drivers that are not compatible with it. A device uses this database when you enable this security feature in the Windows Security UI and it loads the drivers.

This update addresses a race condition in Windows Local Administrator Password Solution (LAPS). The Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) might stop responding. This occurs when the system processes multiple local account operations at the same time. The access violation error code is 0xc0000005.

    datajake1999,

@TheQuinbox @BTyson We've got an udpate for you. Would you like to install it now?

I just uploaded a video of Spanish and German DECtalk 4.60 R8 demos. https://youtu.be/RnlAiWJFTFc

    datajake1999,

@bermudianbrit I can tell that even though I don't speak Spanish, and that is saying something. According to a native German speaker, the German DECtalk isn't good either.

    datajake1999,

@cublanco @bermudianbrit Eloquence has much more sophisticated linguistic processing than either DECtalk or eSpeak. It was actually written in a specialized programming language for linguists called Delta.

@datajake1999 @Brynify Does the IBMTTS one come with a readme or something so I can know how to set this up? And do you have source code for these that will compile with modern tools? I'd like to be able to set up an x64 DECtalk one at least.

    datajake1999,

@x0 @Brynify By default, I am linking against a static build of the synth, however it can easily be modified to link against a dynamically linked version. That is what I am doing with my SAPI5 versions of 4.41 and 4.51 as we don't have sources for those versions. If you want to link against a dectalk DLL, just replace the dtstatic.lib dependency with dectalk.lib.

    datajake1999,

@x0 @Brynify You should be able to import the project into VS 2019, which is the last version that supports upgrading ancient project files such as this. You can then import that upgraded project into 2022 and finish the upgrade process.

    datajake1999,

@x0 @Brynify I don't think you need an older version than 2019 installed to upgrade project files that were created with an older version.
