The xz drama this morning is crazy. I woke up to a single package update, and then saw Xe's blogpost about it. I'm baby and idk, so just make sure that if you have sshd running you're not on 5.6.0+ of xz I think...?
Just found out that xlib has a bunch of cursors built-in, and one of them is deadass just Gumby. They also have a heart, a coffee mug, A CHICKEN, AN UMBRELLA!
after long consideration i've decided to stop being socially anxious it's just not for me
y'all keep doing what you do though don't let anyone discourage you from being yourself💞
We have a bit of a sad announcement to make today. Just in time for Christmas, it appears Nintendo has made some changes to Nintendo Network making it so new users cannot play online. In any game. It is not clear whether or not this is intentional, and Nintendo has made no announcements regarding this so far. However it is likely related to the shutdown (either an issue with scaling things back, like with Super Mario Maker, or an intentional rollout of the shutdown)
I get the feeling #Peertube is still so insignificant nobody would even remotely (pun intended) see a video I'm uploading somewhere on a Peertube instance.
Especially because the mobile apps that exist for it or got native support (like NewPipe) always come with extreme shortcomings like having to add each and every instance manually or local-only search.
I don't really get what concept #Framasoft is following with this project… there's so much potential, yet it's almost unused.
Can't speak to mobile apps, but I definitely feel like PeerTube is missing the same sense of community that exists on the rest of fedi. Most of the content is just re-uploads of political videos from YouTube, unless you know where to look. :/
It's a shame that people who write video game shader code don't get recognized for their artistic merit. Imo it's an insanely expressive task to analyze and understand what it takes to produce a visual style, enough to formalize it with such precise math that it can be reproduced with any possible combination of geometry.
Like, lately I've seen a few people discuss the "samey" and lifeless visuals innate to x game engine (regardless of genre, style, or polygon count). So it's clear this impacts how people feel about a game. Obviously to say it's true for the whole of games in that engine is confirmation bias, because it's only ever mentioned when it's felt.
Some game devs and publishers just have a proclivity to use an engine's default shaders, because they look "good enough" with a few tweaks.
Should Mastodon votes be federated into Lemmy?
I am concerned that Mastodon’s unary-vote system (favorites), and Lemmy’s binary-vote system (upvotes with downvotes) are mutually exclusive....
