@caseynewton Disappointingly one-sided.^1 Second strike after https://mastodon.social/@angdraug/112470023472268409. I was happy to support your newsletter after you left Substack, but at this rate I will not be renewing next year.

  1. The evidence of how manageable the problem of disinformation is when it IS managed doesn't absolve the platforms of responsibility for refusing to manage this problem using methods that they themselves have demonstrated to be effective.

@caseynewton I have my own theories about that (e.g. at https://circle.lt/tags/tech-policy/), but how about we start with the method prescribed by the papers referenced in your newsletter: 'These 2,107 users exerted (with algorithmic help) an enormously outsized network effect'; 'The mass suspension significantly reduced the sharing of links to “low credibility” websites.' More colloquially known as #Deplatforming.
