New_ Public is starting a project on hyperlocal online communities -- neighborhoods, towns, that kind
of thing.

I'd be in, if something like this existed in my neighborhood, and is better than Nextdoor!

Not liking the terminology in this OpenID spec: "A federation can be expressed as an agreement between parties that trust each other."

As a non-technical example, the US of A is a federation. This implies that Texas and California trust each other. Doubtful.

It's also not the same way we think about the "federation" part of the Fediverse, although I'm not sure that we've ever attempted to crisply define what we mean by federation and not.

I'm working on something really interesting. The "social web" -- a concept that has been around for decades but has fallen out of use and is atrophied because all we have are quasi-"social apps" Which Are Not That! -- it needs and wants a new breath of air.

If we re-imagined a truly social web with what we know today, what would it look like?

It's fascinating and so exciting!! Not sure when or whether I have something to share any time soon, but ... writing about it gets me all fired up!!

not random thought - the massive major obvious AI fails make for easy clickbait stories - but I suspect the even more common yet much harder to write about category of AI errors aren't where it makes massive or even silly mistakes but where it makes more subtle mistakes of omission or where it suggests something that's almost right but misses key steps or details - showing an answer that for example was true years ago but isn't fully accurate now

Of the first thirty posts in my Facebook timeline today (which I use very rarely), 10 are from friends, and 20 are some other feed that I don't know where it comes from. Like the Calvis & Hobbes account. Or some historical architecture account. Who creates those posts? Recommending other accounts to follow maybe with sample content is one thing, but I'm confused about attribution.

I understand the architectural differences :-)

I also believe that using the same account with multiple servers, and changing identifiers and "home base" for when interacting with the fediverse are very solvable problems. With the caveat that it hasn't really been broadly implemented.

Pondering how the group thinks of having consistent reply trees across instances for the purpose of forum software. One proposal is to have a “group” actor re-announce everything that has been sent to it. It appears to me this approach would work just as well in a microblogging context where we have, today, the inconsistent reply tree problem across instances as well. The actor that made the root post would act as the re-announcer.

@Kichae @lufthans I believe there are different versions of "everything". Yep, you don't see most posts of the people you follow. But you do see, or can find, all replies to a post of yours. I'm talking about the second case.
