With Pessach cleanup you figure why the ingredients are listed on stuff. Because they MUST BE, not because they WANT TO.

With #IzzyOnDroid that's the other way around. There they are listed for #transparency (see the library section for each APK at https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid). Unfortunately, no way (yet) to transport that to the Android clients…

@jonasgraphie Ich habe es ohne Anmeldung mit einem mehr oder weniger "anonymen" Browser lesen können. Einen, den ich nie für Anmeldung irgendwo benutze, sondern nur zum Lesen von Artikeln aus meinen RSS-Feeds.

Another #security patch has been applied at the #IzzyOnDroid #IzzySoftRepo to protect against what is described at https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2024/04/20/3

Though a full scan of the repo hasn't brought up a single affected APK, that doesn't mean any such cannot show up later – so better safe than sorry, right?

The (better known as – so I'll probably use that hashtag in the future) is used from all over the world, as this graph from GoAccess web statistics shows. Almost no country where it's not in use. I could only spot 3 small gray areas where no requests originated from.

Catima 2.29.0 is out!

This release adds support for finding barcodes in PDF files[1] and dealing with multiple barcodes. It also properly colours the status bar during usage now.

As always, it's available on #GitHub, will soon be available on #IzzyOnDroid and will slowly roll out to other app stores.

For those who don't know: it's Sylvia who a.o. provides the #IzzyOnDroid monitor at her own cost: https://monitor.izzysoft.de/status/izzyondroid This gives me "early warnings" (via @ntfy and @unifiedpush) should some service be down, so I can give it some hugs to make it feel better. So far there were only two such alerts, one for testing if it works and the other as a planned restart took a few seconds longer than planned. But good to be backed! :awesome:

That said, my thanks also goes to @obfusk who helps me a lot making #IzzyOnDroid safer. She caught several places in need of improvements, providing patches for some of them and giving advice (and proof-reading) for those I established myself. Some of the scripts used in that area also come from her.

So when thanking me for the repo, please everyone include Sylvia and her as well. Without them it wouldn't be the place it currently is! 😍

Oopsa… If anyone here already found the new #AndroidAppRain at https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid with 5 updated apps today: one of those updates had to be retracted by me (manual sync running now) as it introduced several proprietary components. Updates for OneKeePass are currently disabled, and the authors were informed – with several hints to possible remedies. I hope they can implement one of those soon, so updates can be re-enabled! 🤞

@sunset_sakura Pointer: Updates at F-Droid.org are disabled for Kiwix ("AutoUpdateMode: None"), but enabled at IoD ("AutoUpdateMode: Tags"). Background: https://github.com/kiwix/kiwix-android/issues/3091 (TL;DR: non-free software is/was needed to build Kiwix, which F-Droid cannot use; IoD doesn't build the APKs itself. If that has changed meanwhile, @kiwix should give F-Droid a ping that they can check and hopefully pick up again.

@dsoft @watomatic Nope, unfortunately not (I do not deal with PlayStore). But I boosted for reach.

Was about to tell them they should issue a takedown request to the US senate, demanding removal of state WA – just in case Washington is also working with WhatsApp… Guess they got annoyed by the fact your app is not about SUPPORTING WhatsApp, but to make it easier to leave the place…

Are you using "WA" in the name? I thought the app is called "Watomatic"? "Water Reminder" also starts with "Wa" 🤔

@dsoft @watomatic Well, wouldn't their request be moot then? It doesn't even apply. You are not «using "WA" … in the name … referencing … capitalization», as they claim, and never did. Guess they rolled a campaign requesting takedown of multiple apps, sending the same text to all of them.

I'm no lawyer, but you maybe can refuse it as "does not apply". Maybe ask a lawyer for advice (thinking of FOSS orgs supporting such cases; FSF maybe?)

I noticed the company who wanted to add their service directly into Owncast, and I said no, started releasing their own version of Owncast with their own changes in it to support this use case.

I'm not sure how to feel about this. It's kind of a fork, but it's really just another release of Owncast by somebody else. They're releasing something called Owncast with functionality and decisions that have nothing to do with the real Owncast. It specifically says stuff like "Owncast does X", and Owncast does not do X, and will never do X. Only their changes do X.

I fear this may confuse people. If something goes wrong with their version of the software, people are going to ask me for support, and might make the real Owncast look bad. But I don't know if this is wrong, or if this is completely acceptable. It's open source, and the name "Owncast" isn't owned by anybody, as Owncast is an open source project, not a company. So I guess they have the right to do whatever they want and call it Owncast.

But it feels wrong, and it seems like really bad things could come of this.

@gabek @darnell I use a trademark. The IzzyOnDroid logo/icon is based on a trademark I hold, see https://gitlab.com/IzzyOnDroid/repo/-/tree/master/assets?ref_type=heads#assets (the IzzyOnDroid app uses that, and it's not my work; I granted them usage). And there are others, which might be more relevant to your case (check F-Droid apps having NonFreeAssets).

Speaking of F-Droid: the policy for forks there is they must use a unique package name and app name. For a.o. this very reason.
