My vintage RC haul from today (more pics inside) (lemmy.world)

I saw this lot on marketplace yesterday with only 1 photo but I could see 2 of the chassis so I jumped on it. All told there are 6 chassis in various states of dress 40ish motors, 3 pistol transmitters, 8 or more twin stick transmitters, receivers, servos, only 1 or 2 speed controllers, 1 body, and a bunch of other stuff....

DigitalDruid,

cool score! What’s a Motor Dresser do for ya?

DigitalDruid,

I like to do the name after the avatar so it fits right

DigitalDruid,

Pando isn’t the worlds largest organism, that title belongs to the Armillaria ostoyae honey mushroom that lives under Malheur in Oregon.

One of the biggest though!

DigitalDruid,

without orbital dominance?

amazon.com ass planet with fake reviews.

DigitalDruid,

this method is how we discovered Neptune and Pluto and many exoplanets. Kepler’s laws are extremely specific about orbits, so once you pin down the disturbances the planet makes you significantly narrow down the places it can be.

a cookie is a cookie but a newton is fruit and cake!

god these were such treasure as a child! I don’t think my children have even tried them but I sadly expect they might not love them the options are so much broader today.

And my store is having a sale on them now how lovely if the kids hate them I am sure i will at least get the satisfaction of finding them having been enshittified since I last tried them a decade ago!

Callum Turner to Star in ‘Neuromancer’ Series at Apple TV+ (variety.com)

A couple months ago, it was rumored that Robert Pattinson might play Case in Apple TV+'s Neuromancer. It looks like that rumor fell through because it’s now official, Callum Turner will play Case. I’ll be honest with you, I have no idea who this guy is. But an official announcement about Neuromancer means this project is...

DigitalDruid,

I just re-read these and man they hold up. It’s so wild that Gibson had no computer experience at all when writing them. He said the only computer he saw was through a window!

i think Molecular Thermal Motion Harvesting has huge potential for an energy source but i don’t think it’s been put in anything yet.

Piezoelectrics that it’s based on in general has been around decades though is there really nothing generating electricity from them in production?

DigitalDruid,

what a nice read, this lady really put in the effort it sounds like.

As an award-winning violin player who has performed at Carnegie Hall and a member of the Science Bowl and USA Biology Olympiad at North Hunterdon High School, Zhang has no shortage of talent and ideas.

wow!

DigitalDruid,

the bridge is coming up on 50 years old. maryland DOT regulations require a safety certification inspection every 5 years but every 50 they get a really thorough inspection where they use radar and sonar to check the concrete foundation pilings.

When the FSK was built back in the 70’s the mob was doing big business in ports all up and down the eastern seaboard and it’s widely known in charm city that the bridge was made with shady mob concrete and was done really shoddily. There is zero chance that bridge was going to pass its 50 year inspection and the owner was going to be absolutely fucked and probably do an entire retrofit.

It just so happens that the bridge changed hands last year to what looks like a shell company at a discount and as part of that transfer the insurance policy was updated and increased (which is normal) but the inspection reports the insurance company uses are the 5 year reports which don’t do the deep concrete scans.

And it also just so happens that the ship that hit the bridge was used in an insurance fraud scheme a few years ago where they sideswiped a pier in europe. It ended up that the mafia was involved in that, too.

I have no proof of anything shady but when you look at all the pieces…
