DashboTreeFrog,

Genuinely looking forward to the Satanic Temple shenanigans over this one. A competing Satan infused curriculum would be fun

DashboTreeFrog,

They’ve legitimately done a lot of good in the fight for freedom of/from religion and separation of church and state. I’m not sure what the argument is because even though I called it “shenanigans” their actions have had tangible effects in the fight against religious extremism so I would call it better at least then just letting the religious zealots have their way. There’s a great Stuff You Should Know podcast episode about them and some of the work they’ve done if your interested

DashboTreeFrog,

Yeah, they’re great! I remember first reading about them well probably over a decade ago. They do amazing work.

DashboTreeFrog,

I feel like QAnon keeps upping the ante on the term “unhinged”

DashboTreeFrog,

After trying a search, opened Lemmy to see if it was my connection, immediately see this meme. Thanks for the troubleshooting confirmation Lemmy

DashboTreeFrog,

I mean, those guys with the buckets sure are trying something, taking direct action to avoid disaster.

DashboTreeFrog,

I hate this but I also get it.

A little while ago on the TWIT podcast one of the guests, or maybe Leo himself, was talking about how this is exactly what they want out of AI, for it to be able to know how they use their computer and just streamline everything. Some people are really excited about the possibilities, and yeah, the AI needs to track whatever you’re doing to know how to help you with your work flow.

That said, I don’t want Microsoft keeping track of everything I’m doing. They’ve already shown that they’re willing to sell our data and shove ads down our throats, so as much as they say we can filter out what we don’t want tracked, I’m not inclined to trust or believe them.

DashboTreeFrog,

Yeah, maybe some kind of situation where you turn it on for “training time” with access to only specified files and systems on the computer, no internet access, etc. At the same time though, I wonder how much an AI could really streamline things. Would it just pre-load my frequent files and programs? Make suggestions or reminders on tasks? I don’t think we’re anywhere near the level where it could actually be doing work for me yet.

Interesting possibilities, but I’m not sure how useful yet.

DashboTreeFrog,

That’s exactly how I think of it, so strange someone downvoted you

DashboTreeFrog,

Thanks! I’ve heard a bit here and there about this one but somehow never picked it up. After a quick search it sounds much more specific to the internet than the more generalized “Amusing Ourselves to Death” but I think that’s kind of what I’m looking for right now. Will give it a go!

DashboTreeFrog,

Yup!They did a remake in 2020, never watched it myself cause Hulu but I’ve heard some good things about it.

DashboTreeFrog,

In my part of the world all we’re getting are heat waves. Please stop, Ra 😢

DashboTreeFrog,

Somehow suddenly remembering that feeling of discovering the head of Team Rocket, that I’d been fighting all this time, was the final gym leader and having my little mind blown.

DashboTreeFrog,

That was absolutely amazing, calm, to the point, poignant and just straight truth while on the literal front lines of the protest. Part of me wants a shortened “highlights” version that’s easily shareable to help spread this but at the same time just about everything said feels important.

I hope his message and that of the other protesters gets across to as many people as possible

US paused bomb shipment to Israel to signal concerns over Rafah invasion, official says (apnews.com)

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. paused a shipment of bombs to Israel last week over concerns that Israel was approaching a decision on launching a full-scale assault on the southern Gaza city of Rafah against the wishes of the U.S., a senior administration official said Tuesday....

DashboTreeFrog,

Good. Unfortunately it feels like far too little, far too late, and reading the article maybe only a one off thing for a particular shipment. Wondering if the article is just trying to paint the US as pushing back against the Israeli government without actually doing anything substantive.

DashboTreeFrog,

Just did this, growing seeds in light and dark, with some first graders. Blew their little minds.

Opening the box with the seeds that were in the dark for a week and seeing the sprouts all yellow, tall and grown towards a tiny little hole that no one noticed, the excitement was crazy.

DashboTreeFrog,

Older siblings always gotta help out with the homework, the tradition lives on.

I was always on the big brother side of this. My favorite was when my younger brother suddenly remembered they had to build a model of an imaginary animal and write a report on it the night before the due date. We stayed up while I built a model out of paper with a K’Nex skeleton and we talked about the stuff that he could write about it.

I thought it was all really scuffed and rushed but somehow he got an A

DashboTreeFrog,

IIRC, that was actually the plan. I remember Microsoft saying way back that 10 would be the last version of Windows and everything would be just upgrades to 10 moving forward.

DashboTreeFrog,

IMO, they generally replace a period, comma or exclamation when used. In the cases where it’s a necessary question mark or something like that, I’d put the emoji after👍

What's the deal with Isreal vs. Palestine side taking in the West?

I feel like I’ve been kind of in the loop for most of the headlines regarding this confrontation. Yet somehow I can’t find it within myself to actually care about either side. It seems like both are lead by genocidal parties, hell bent on indoctrinating their populace into hating the other side. Yet at the same time people...

DashboTreeFrog,

Just in brief, ignoring some history and so on, Gaza has been under Israeli occupation for a while now, controlling essentially everything that goes in and out, including people. Hamas gained power there, and legit, the Israeli government has given resources to Hamas to keep them going, supposedly as an excuse to keep their thumb on the Palestinian population.

A lot of people supported the creation of a Jewish state coming out of WWII and the holocaust, but currently, and especially because of just how hard the Israeli military is going now, it’s becoming impossible to not see how much the Israeli government just wants to take control of all the land and wipe out the Palestinian people.

Of course, there’s more going on, and some people might disagree with my simplification, but I think this is as good of a simple explanation of at least my understanding trying to follow what’s been going on in the region since the early aughts.

DashboTreeFrog,

I see where people might think that if you’re just looking at the immediate context from the October 7th attacks, but I urge you to look into the conditions Palestinian people had been living under for decades, especially in Gaza. Rather than vengeance, when you look into the history, the October 7th attacks feel more like an excuse to go full throttle into carrying out what the Israeli government and hardcore Zionists already been trying to do for a while now.

DashboTreeFrog,

Took my meme addled brain way too long to remember Chad is also a country
