My cats have been visiting with my parents for nearly 2 weeks now. In all that time, Phizzy has chosen Mum's lap or the couch.

Today she finally chose Dad. Dad will not be moving for the foreseeable future. 🤣

My father is deaf (old age). He has a hearing aid that picks up Bluetooth devices - very handy in this age of tech

I came upstairs this morning to hear Pi yelling rhythmically, but he was nowhere to be seen. I started opening doors and found him shut in the linen cupboard.

My dad wouldn't have even known that the cat had snuck in during the 2 seconds he opened it, and then didn't hear his yowling.

Cat needs a meow to Bluetooth converter.

The mystery of the linen cupboard has been solved. My folks have changed their bedsheets. Aided by one cat that is chatting to them and getting a lot of appropriate whacks (Pi likes firm pats).

The other cat is on my lap in the loungeroom.

Currently listening to my parents try to convince Phizzy (a cat) to leave their bedroom closet using logic.

Mum: "I don't think you'd be comfortable in there, there are too many clothes in there."

Phizzy: mournful, sad meow.
Mum: "What's wrong, no, you can't get up any higher."

Dad (to Mum) "Just don't close the door fully, so she can get out when she wants."

I have received an update on the happenings of last night.

At bedtime, Phizzy was trying to get the closet door open, but there wasn't room for her paw under the door. So Dad opened it for her. He then made sure it didn't latch closed on her.

The conversation in the preceding toot then ensued.

I definitely think they have a favourite grand-furball. 🤣

I am home with the unhappiest cat ever. He has been mistreated and I should do something about it immediately.

I used to drink loose leaf Russian Caravan back in my hoity toity 20's. Can't stand it now for similar reasons.

Crowd sourcing help please!

Indian House warming gift.

An ex-team member has invited me to her housewarming. I live in a different state, so can't attend, but I'd like to send them a gift/flowers.

I understand they are celebrating early so that they can honour the Indian gods Pooja/prayer appropriately.

I'm very aware I'm probably mangling all the terminology, apologies!

Please can you guide me to appropriate options? The celebration is in Canberra, ACT Aus.

Pi is wandering around the house with opinions. Loud opinions. In standard (non-typical cat) Bengal meows.

Pi needed:

  • the sliding door open (screen door is shut, he can't get out but he wanted fresh air, and to stare into the verdant dark courtyard)
  • to leap after the mouse on a stick
  • to be violently patted and whacked while standing on the top of the cat tree so that I don't have to bend down.

Phizzy needed:

  • a scrunched up piece of paper to play with (Bunnings receipt)
  • more food.

Neither cat wants to sleep now.

My boss is slightly* concerned about me. If I wasn't about to go off on 4-6 weeks medical leave she'd be encouraging me to take at least a week off.

I guess being out of work for 24 hours and spending a night in emergency will do that.

I'm ok now. Although still stressed with work. But I didn't see the warning signs** because they are the same as just being overworked and stressed...

All good now. And we'll monitor it all a bit more closely. I'm also doing more research to try to figure out if there's an underlying cause other than my body just being shit at absorbing nutrients.

Okay, I’m back. Sort of. I’m suffering from back pain from hell, so touching grass is almost impossible right now, but doomscrolling has lost a lot of its appeal even with just a few days off.

You’ll probably see fewer posts from me. I’ve decided reposts are probably not worth it since I figure most people have them turned off.

I really don’t know why I’m telling you all this since I’m not a train and you don’t need to know my schedule :)

Pi would like you all to know that he is the saddest cat ever and that I am the worst cat mother possible.

After dinner and cuddles and pats, I should have continued to play with him until dawn and not gone to bed and left him alone in a dark house with his toys and food and open doors to roam the house including the option of joining me in bed. I'm terrible and life is so unfair.

Bengals sure can yell...

There is a disturbing creaking coming from something in my backyard.

If there was a rope tied to a pole I'd think it was that. There are no ropes in my backyard.

It's either a large palm frond about to disconnect, or something in one of my neighbour's yards.

I've been out into the yard now, I'm pretty sure the creaking noise is coming from the 16m (approx) tall palm trees* along my back fence.

Best guess is that a massive pain frond is getting ready to separate and fall to the ground in the next few months.

  • No, I'm not a fan. But removal would be tricky.

I've successfully gotten rid of the massive golden cane palms in my front yard / nature strip.

Because of the size of these and position (between pool retaining wall and back fence), I'll need a professional to do it. Which means $$.

I'll get it done when I get the pool area fixed later this year.

I'm a sucker for cat things.

I've been eyeing off these donuts for ages, wondering if my two would engage with it.

I finally purchased one and it arrived today.

Phizzy said yes.
