Epic is now offering 100% of the revenue to exclusive games for the first 6 months, up from 88% (store.epicgames.com)

Personally, as a customer, not a developer, this is disappointing to me, as there's still no reason for me to shop on Epic when they don't support my operating system, so this is likely just going to entice more developers to make me wait 6 months to play their games. Nonetheless, it's gaming news.

Gen X Grown Up looks at the upcoming Atari 2600 Plus (www.youtube.com)

Hot on the trail of ten AtGames Flashback consoles and the poorly received VCS comes yet another Atari console, the 2600 Plus. What's so "plus" about this machine, anyway? Well, it runs actual Atari 2600 cartridges... most of them, anyway. It also plays Atari 7800 games, and runs the libraries of both systems in crisp HDMI,...

Streets of Rogue 2 - Official Reveal Trailer (www.youtube.com)

Hot off of Gamescom opening night, a gameplay trailer for Streets of Rogue 2. The first game is one of the best games I've ever played, and this looks like it's that but bigger. I'm curious how the proc gen and pacing will work this time around, but the car combat already looks phenomenal. Like the first game, it continues to...

Some potential season 3 patch notes are being deduced from a playable Johnny build at a major in Europe right now.

Note that all of this is deduced from people who are more likely to notice nerfs than buffs. These may or may not be final, since this build is probably weeks old, and things found here may not be present in the patch we play a week from now. Credit to the GGS Discord, which referenced, I believe, the Goldlewis Discord. I...

July 2024 is the End of the Road for the Xbox 360's Storefront (news.xbox.com)

After an impressive eighteen year run, the Xbox 360 storefront will be shuttered in July 2024, officially ending support for Microsoft's most successful system. The Xbox 360 is easily Microsoft's plateau as a console manufacturer, comparable to the Sega Genesis in disrupting the status quo and giving a dominant industry force...

Black Nerd Comedy looks at the hunger-gatherer era of gaming (www.youtube.com)

Andre from Black Nerd Comedy looks back at the late 1980s and 1990s, when gamers really had to work to get their thrills. There was no internet to bring you a world of gaming goodness... you had to leave your house, touch grass, then quickly leave grass and walk into an arcade, or a Blockbuster Video, or a friend's house, to...

Everything Announced at the August 2023 THQ Nordic Digital Showcase - IGN (www.ign.com)

Personally, I'm holding out hope that Alone in the Dark is good. Wreckreation is a game I could absolutely get into if it didn't smell like an always-online game with no local multiplayer. Loot games like Titan Quest are a genre I've been interested in dipping my toes into, but see the aforementioned fear about always-online...

Spica softly and carry a big umbrella! Spica Adventure revives the gameplay of Parasol Stars for a new generation of consoles (www.gematsu.com)

Remember Parasol Stars? Possibly not; it's one of the more obscure games in the Bubble Bobble series, released for the Turbografx-16 instead of the more popular Sega Genesis and Super NES....

Netflix’s new virtual game controller iOS app hints at TV gaming (www.theverge.com)

Netflix has launched a mysterious new gaming controller app for iOS on the App Store, as reported by TechCrunch. The free app, simply called “Netflix Game Controller,” can be downloaded now and says you can “connect to your TV to play” but doesn’t yet have a listed compatible…

Microsoft shortens its Xbox Game Pass trials just before Starfield’s release (www.theverge.com)

Microsoft has shortened its $1 Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass trials to just 14 days instead of a month, just weeks before the release of Starfield. After running for years, the $1 trial for new Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers stopped in March before returning last month after Microsoft adjusted its Xbox…

Hovver Bovver, Miner 2049er, and Steamroller come to the Intellivision (forums.atariage.com)

Elektronite just released three games for the Intellivision that may be familiar to old school gamers... Jeff Minter's Hovver Bovver, where you mow a lawn while dodging suburban threats, Bill Hogue's Miner 2049er, which tasks you with "painting" stages while dodging creepy mutants, and David Rolfe's Steamroller, an obscure...

Yet Strangely Compelling: Mega Zone (kiblitzing.blogspot.com)

Here's an article I wrote a few years back about Konami's Mega Zone, a middle of the road shoot 'em up from 1983 that managed to sink its hooks into me despite its aggressive mediocrity. It doesn't look or sound as nice as Xevious, and it's not as fair as Xevious. Yet I kept feeding it quarters, trying to discover the X-factor...

The evolution of the Mortal Kombat series (blog.playstation.com)

The fighting game genre has many notable franchises. One of the earliest to earn iconic status is Mortal Kombat. It punched its way onto the arcade scene in 1992 and quickly found its way to the home console market, wowing players with at-the-time realistic visuals and controversial over–the–top gore. That controversial...
