nando161,

I know I don't shut up about this but frankly not enough are angry about the 5-day/40 hour workweek (and I am AWARE a lot of people even more than that). I feel like a lot more people should be absolutely furious that we only really have two days a week and some occasional hours in the evening to socialise, run errands, do chores, or relax.

It's no wonder so many people are profoundly lonely and disconnected from their when maintaining a social life in what little free time we have is incredibly difficult. If you have kids, a second , a very long commute, or other responsibilities, it's nearly impossible.

We literally aren't meant to live like this and I'll never stop being shocked how many people just take it as the natural state of things and don't want to throw a brick through a 's window every time they think of it.

LauraJMG,

@nando161 This! And especially after you factor in the long commutes many people have, unpaid overtime (very common in STEM work), and variable-shift work (common in manufacturing), which totally fucks with your diurnal clock.

Webbnflow,

@nando161

I’ve become more vocal with my colleague’s, friends and family, and asking them why we waste most of our time commuting & working with very little compensation or time for family, hobbies or leisure.
I mean, considering that our time is very limited on this planet and at any moment we can become disabled or unable to participate in this economic system, very few people ask for, or demand fair compensation in exchange for our valuable time.
And who the fuck tricked us into thinking that leisure shall be limited and reserved for a few weeks a year? “Vacation”. What a sick fucking joke!''
Most people that I’ve spoken to have resigned themselves to say things like “that’s just the way it is” or “it could be worse”….

How in the fuck is it normal to waste the best years of our lives toiling away at a job, paying a bank for decades to maybe someday own a home and throwing the majority of our hard earned money away for the very things needed to go to work and support the home that the bank still owns? We’ve been conned!
But let’s all strive to become “middle class” anyway…. Fuck!

Then when we get old or become sick or disabled, and are no longer “useful” we’ve somehow allowed anything we’ve managed to save or own to be taken from us so that we can pay for medical bills or care facilities.
“Retirement”

We sacrifice our family, the best years of our lives, and our health in the hopes that someday we can retire, travel and spend time with loved ones. Hahaha!
And we believed it!!!

The bankers, billionaires and their millionaire politicians have engineered their near perfect society and these obscenely wealthy sociopaths are laughing all the way to the bank while we continue to accept this fucked up system, as normal.
“It’s just the way the world works” I hear too often..
Hey! At least it’s not “sOciALiSm”

To the rich that own everything, we are simply “Human Capital Stock”. That’s all we are to them! Homelessness, starvation, and suffering is the price the rich are willing to pay and they’ll continue to pay that price until we collectively agree that another way is possible.
I forgot which asshole politician or economist first referred to us as Human Capital Stock but to the economists and the societal engineers, we are here to work for them, buy their products and follow their rules with out questioning their authority or the imbalance of the system they’ve created. Their economic system has become inescapable and It’s reinforced daily. Our children begin thinking about careers in fucking grade school! Public education has become a nationalized trade school for the development of the capital stock of tomorrow.
And for the people that won’t or cannot participate, they become a drain on “society” and not worthy of life. “Such “Freedom” we have here…

So I agree, Why are we not mad as hell?

We have the numbers!

There is nothing these rich sociopaths or their police forces could do about millions of us filling the streets and refusing to work for their precious economy!

It’s depressing and maddening! So, if anybody has any ideas on how to fight back, I’m all ears. Until then, I’ll just continue to strengthen my weak as fuck Union
and point out the absurdity of our predicament to any of my colleagues or friends willing to listen, and if “eat the rich” is more than just words for a t-shirt and becomes an actual path towards bringing some justice to this world, I’ll set aside my vegetarian ways and will do my part.

@nando161 Yep we work way more hours than many medieval peasants, let alone our distant ancestors and pre-colonial indigenous peoples. Feck that shite.

@nando161 Not to mention that a very large percentage of "work hours” and the products of that work contribute absolutely nothing to our society

timboard,

@nando161
I would be ecstatic if I had two days a week off. Monday thru Saturday, over 60 hours a week. You do what you gotta do I guess.

nando161,

@timboard wage slavery can eat a dick

boogiechild,

fluids_guru,

@nando161 Have you read
Keynes’ “Economic possibilities of our grandchildren?”

http://www.econ.yale.edu/smith/econ116a/keynes1.pdf

The reason we aren’t working 15-hour weeks is, according to him, because we are ruled by people who view money not as a means to a good life, but as an end in itself.

Kropotkin also makes the case for a 4-hour work day in “The conquest of Bread”.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Conquest_of_Bread

We are slaving our lives away, selling our labour to purchase the necessary means of our existence, all to generate surplus value for the owners of capital.

pither1952,

@nando161 How about, as an interim reform: 1. 16 hour work week 2. $60 per hour minimum wage 3. FULL RETIREMENT at age 38 (20 years of work). Got to start with some strong reforms, and then prepare for more and better times.

Don't launch a brick through a window; that's just needlessly destructive.

Skip the window and just launch it through the billionaire instead!

nando161,

@cassius1213 both will suffice :antifa_100:
