marqle, I joined #Twitter in 2008. I don't think there were more than a thousand people around.
My introduction to the #fediverse, was probably #identica, if #statusnet counts ?
After that it was probably #friendica. I think the first genuine implementation of #ActivityPub was #pumpio wasn't it? I never actually got there.
