#Traits & Duty Officers

Trait  Name  Description  Notes
Personal Traits  Fleet Coordinator  ''Space Trait''': Increases your Damage based on how many players are in your party. (Self Included)
Photonic Capacitor  Space Trait. This trait causes the activation of your Science abilities to reduce your remaining cooldown on Photonic Fleet by 20 seconds. This effect may only be triggered a maximum of once every 10 seconds, and will only trigger if Photonic Fleet is currently in cooldown.
Photonic Reinforcement  As an expert in Photonic Studies, your [[Ability: Photonic Fleet Photonic Fleet]] ability summons an additional ship.
Unconventional Systems  Using Control Bridge Officer Abilities reduces the cooldown of all Universal Consoles by 7%.
Wing Commander  100% Rank Up XP for all Hangar Pets
  Hive Defenses (space)    27 pets
  Friends in Unusual Places
Projectile Training  Increases Projectile Weapon Damage.
Feel the Weight of Our Presence  Space Trait. Each friendly ship on the map debuffs Damage Resistance Rating of Foes within 12km by 0.5 for 10sec, stacking up to 12.5 for 25 Allies. Mines and Torpedos don't count, but Hangar Pets, Distress Beacons, Turrets, and all other forms of Allies do. The sight of a ship can strike fear into the hearts of foes, but it is the people represented by that ship which form its true strength. A fleet, an alliance, or even just a cause, what matters most is the people it champions. [Applies "Feel the Weight of our Presence": -0.5 All Damage Resistance Rating for 10 sec
Bulkhead Technician  ''Space Trait''': Increases your Maximum Hull Hit Points.

Starship Traits  Superior Area Denial  - Activating Beams: Fire at Will or Cannons: Scatter Volley causes your weapons to debuff foe's armor resistance for a short duration, as well as activating Fire at Will: I and Cannons: Scatter Volley I on your hangar pets.
Hivebearer  - Game Description: When you launch a hangar pets or hangar pet dies: Spawns a swarmer for 30 seconds (Maximum 8 swarmers at a time) 8 pets
Numerical Superiority  - While this trait is slotted, you gain a damage bonus that increases as more allies target your targeted foe, including yourself. This includes pets like Saucer Separation or Multi-Vector pets, but not Hangar pets.

Perrin42,

Just edited the post to reflect changes I'd made after the last update - specifically replaced the TTF with a Tetryon beam, and the Gravimetric with a Breen Transphasic Cluster Torpedo - for 10 more pets!

### 141! 🤣

Ah, you did pick up the Mudd bundle. Nice! Ok, so I was looking at your loadout, and I was thinking to myself, "Should I say something? Should I ask if they're open to feedback?" Then I finally noticed the pet count in the "notes" column and your post title suddenly made sense to me. You're not chasing dps in the traditional sense...this is a pet build!! Holy crap, 131 pets, hahaha, that's crazy.

I've been back for a few months after an absence of nearly a decade, so please excuse what might be painfully obvious questions, as I'm still catching up on...everything, really. But how the heck do you fly this? What's your play style? I'd imagine you park just outside the action and direct your pets from afar? Do I have that right, or does your ship take a more active role in combat? Have you parsed the logs yet? I mean, I'm out of touch so I dunno how common this is, but I've never seen anything like it before, and it's kinda blowing my mind. And I used to mod stobuilds back in the day, so I thought I was used to seeing wild shit. This is a really focused build, you went frickin all in with the pets.

JFC, 131!

Perrin42,

I actually started this build about 6 years ago, when something made me wonder "just how many pets can I get?" Then the Ryn'kodan was released with the text "Jeremy puts stuff here", and a name and mission was born - as much stuff as possible on a ship named Jetemy.

https://www.reddit.com/r/stobuilds/comments/6l3ei5/perrins_pet_insanity_build/

It keeps growing. I have never parsed it for DPS, and my playstyle is one of "fly around and launch the pets when the cooldown finishes." I actually have an AutoHotKey script that just cycles 1 through 0, then Shift-1 through Shift-0, every 15 seconds. On this build the pet commands take up a little over one command bar, with a few that I manually activate. As for the pets I can't control or target them - as you can see in the ISA video, the engine stops drawing enemies unless they're within 1-5km, so I just let the weapons and pets autofire and try to keep myself alive with self-heals.

This is very much not a common build. But I don't chase DPS, I go for fun gimmick builds. I have a Leg Gal-X with several different big beams - lance, immolating lance, quantum phase, mining laser, might add some others. I also have a Ryn'kodan that has over 30k passive regen per second, and a ship with no energy weapons (from before torp builds were cool). Chasing DPS isn't fun for me, but crazy builds certainly are. And it is freaking hilarious when the game engine wigs out and stops drawing the gate in ISA. 🤣

So yeah, I'll accept feedback, as long as it works for the purpose of the build. 😉

Oh, that far back? I admire your dedication. It's interesting to see how far it has evolved, and it's especially hard to believe you tripled the amount of combat pets since you started. Like, 39 was already impressive. That ISA video is just...bonkers is the only word that comes to mind right now. Those boss enemies disappearing, omg! Yeah, all those objects really pushed the engine past its capabilities.

WRT the autohotkey script: it cycles 1-0 and then shift1-shift0 in order? Do you mind sharing the source for that, or is it something you made or something? I've been using the STO Key Binds app, which is super useful, but I don't think it can let you cycle through keys in a certain order. That I know of, anyway.

I hear ya on the DPS, I'm finishing up my glass dps beamboat right now, and I think I'm gonna start on a new gimmick/novelty build soon. The deeps are fun, but it always gets boring once you pass a certain point. I used to do the odd tinkering now and then, in fact the build waiting for me when I logged on a few months back was my old T5 Fleet Excelsior single cannon nanite disruptor build. Hah, my buddy Mikey used to give me shit for that silly thing, but I recall it racking up to 10k dps, which was pretty respectable back then (2014), especially considering its loadout. Plus, it's fun seeing all them little energy bolts blast across the screen.

Shet, I just might have to resurrect that single cannon idea. It was a lot of fun, especially on super slow-turning cruisers. Heck, I'm even considering a rainbow build, cuz why not?

Nah, I gots no feedback on the Pet Insanity lol. It's way out of my area of knowledge/expertise, and it looks like you got a good handle on it already!

Perrin42,

Sure thing! I uploaded the file here: https://anonfiles.com/w0L3cc31z4/STOTest1_zip

Some notes:

  • It is tied to the Scroll Lock key; run the script and then press Scroll Lock to toggle it on or off.
  • It cycles through 1-0, then Shift+1-0, with 0.75 seconds at each one. Any faster and there were a lot of missed clicks. It takes about 15 seconds to go through the whole cycle.
  • It will work whether or not STO is the active window, but if you're browsing something - like, say, r/sto - which comes up with the same name the commands will be sent there too.

It's not optimized, but it has made STO so much better to play for me. I just set up the bars the way I want - with duplicates for the important skills - and press one key when I get into combat. Then I can actually focus on flying and watching the game rather than watching the skill bars.

Indy,

Interesting build. Well done. I'll have to reference this when I start experimenting with carriers (more).

What caught my attention most with your post though was the formatting. Any tips you'd give for others wanting to also post builds on this platform?

The engine just gives up 42 seconds into the video!

Perrin42,

Well, the markdown formatting from the STOBuilds build template seems to work, although the presentation isn't the best. But more importantly...

### 131 Pets! Not counting crystals!

And I think it's possibly even more than that, if I use the Phased Waveform Beacon. Changes from the previous build:

  • Replaced H.Y.D.R.A. console with Fundamental Field Replicator from the La Sirena (yes, I bought the Mudd's bundle. Hence the post title.): 9 pets
  • Replaced the Pryor's World Defense Satellite with Portal of the Damned: 12 pets.
  • Replaced Black Alert with Formation Flying: Fewer potential pets, but more consistent.
Indy,

Noted, regarding the markdown formatting working well from the builds template.

Perrin42,

It works well-ish. There is a lot of empty space and some of the tables aren't rendering right, but I think that's more kbin's implementation of Markdown than the template itself.

Indy,

Think we (people of m/sto) should therefore stick with that template format for build posts? Or do you think the template needs to change for our use? (I, personally, have a modified version of that automatic template to which I added T6X fields.)

Perrin42,

I think we should stick with that template; it works well enough here and the r/stobuilds team keep it up to date - no need to duplicate effort in my opinion.

Indy,

Good enough for me. I'm working on a number of builds (and updates to previous builds) currently. Based on your experience, I'll just keep using what I already have/use for posting. Thanks for the info and, again, great build!
