Why are they fiddling around the edges? Make it 10+ seconds and be done with it. It will make zero difference to cars, but will make crossing the road much better for people who move a little slower.

@localzuk Total non-policy as new crossings use LIDAR to detect if pedestrians are on the crossing and hold the lights longer for them.

Some also have set timers at certain times of day. New crossing outside my old school holds for ages around school opening and closing time, even overriding the sensor to hold it empty, then reduces it to normal during the day.

@localzuk We should be encouraging walking and discouraging driving. The lights should change within 3 seconds of a pedestrian pressing the button. Stop the cars let the people walk. #justwalk #climatecrisis

I reckon there would be more motorists putting their foot down to beat the upcoming red light, rather than stopping if safe to do so as they should.
