The "spell" Hitler cast is what we often call a "reality distortion field"—an ability to bend perceptions, convincing followers to believe the impossible and disregard facts and reason.

We've glorified this trait, especially in charismatic business leaders.

And it's a terrible mistake.

Yes, just like a narcissistic abuser would use systematic gaslighting and manipulation to distort the perception of reality of their victims.

As with a narcissistic abuser, you'll find "enablers" (~ "persons who benefit from ignoring the abuse") in proximity of such a person.

To make it very clear: Enablers are neither victims nor innocent, they are accomplices.

@Daojoan People didn't snap out of the trance. In 1985 we had a heated discussion, when our president dared to call it a liberation from Nazism and not a defeat. There are still people yearning for what Hitler gave them. There was no zero hour.

And I think this tells you also, why people stick to their silicon valley myths. It's a great story that give people the idea of being part in something great. Taking humanity to its' destination.

nicholas_saunders,

@kaffeeringe @Daojoan what was this event in 1985? Please elaborate and give context for my benefit.

@nicholas_saunders @Daojoan On the 40th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe and the National Socialist tyranny is a speech given by the then German Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker on May 8, 1985 in a commemorative hour in the plenary hall in front of the German Bundestag in Bonn.

I wish I knew how to break the spell over others. That power to manipulate others into a reality distortion field is the same power that charismatic cult leaders have. I’m not sure how many people have successfully been freed from these cults without first getting them away from the cult leader.
