If there's one thing I know from '90s kitchens and bathrooms, it's that no one ever actually uses or eats the aesthetic stuff in fancy jars. That soap? Nah, that's the decorative soap. It's here to look pretty, so don't use it. We're out of noodles, too—those in the jar are strictly decor. https://www.eater.com/24105047/you-dont-need-to-decant-your-groceries-kitchen-storage

@stefthepef I'm suddenly remembering how many parents used to keep tall jars of beans with cork lids in the kitchen but never used the beans. They were just there for years.

@MLE_online It's so weird! Also, kind of gross?

I think I still have a few fancy-shaped soaps in the house, though. The '90s were weird.

@stefthepef My mom had a bunch of soaps shaped like roses and things in the bathrooms. They sat in little wicker baskets lined with frilly fabric. They, too, just sat there, aging, yellowing. Super weird.

@MLE_online @stefthepef my childhood bathroom was only freed of those when an accident with an explosively failing shaving cream can propelled them into the toilet

@vxo @stefthepef The soaps were likewise freed, like captive birds escaping when their cage door is accidentally left open.
