Alaska has entirely switched to self check in now at some airports, I think? There’s a staffer to help but counters are deprecated except for ticketing and special stuff.

I read that Alaska was grounded because bugs in their ‘self weight-and-balance’ software was causing premature rotations and tail strikes

@glennf Just saw a thread of someone denied medical help because he had a Linux phone that won’t run the doctor’s app. Won’t be able to fly with same limitation 🙁

@franksting We've seen a hybrid, but the sheer “mobile only* (*yes, you can wait in a line with all the complicated check-ins/ticketing)” is new. I mean, I like it for me, but it sure seems like it must represent hardship for some %age of fliers who aren't super savvy or don't want to use mobile devices to manage flight details.

@glennf New normal: A congregation of boomers will be lined up at the check-in desk, flip phone out calling the kids to explain why they're delayed, waiting for the one working printer to spit out a boarding pass.
