This what I used to watch on TV when I was a little boy.

@nyrath I think you've posted some of these Space Angel eps before and they are kinda fun (even with the creepy human lips) :). Where's "Prometheus" supposed to be though?

@evildrganymede

The writers of the Space Angel cartoon are a little confused about the concept of "solar systems". The do not seem to realize that planets orbit stars, and that the Sun is just one of 400 billion sun's in the galaxy.

That's fantastic! Not sure how I missed Space Angel.

Battle of the Planets was the show that got me into sci-fi and anime.

Ok, in thinking about it, I do know how I missed Space Angel. It's hard to remember in this age of limitless information but, back in the day, unless something was broadcast in your area you would never know about it.

I love the art style on Space Angel. It's hard to tell from, the YouTube video but it almost looks like the characters mouths are composited in from real human actors. It's really cool!

@ipxfong

That's because the mouths ARE composites from real human lips. It is called Syncho-vox ®. Despite being much cheaper than drawing animation of moving lips, you can see why it didn't catch on.

@nyrath
amazing to see quasi-realistic movement in a children’s cartoon!

(but now I want to know how far 200 astro-leagues is!)

@tkinias

Like the cartoon Clutch Cargo, the cartoon Space Angel cut costs by moving static cut-outs, and the horror of Syncho-vox ®
This is where the character's face was a drawing with a cut-out hole for a real person's lips. Very uncanny valley.

@nyrath
I was thinking of the way the rockets move inertially, but the SyncroVox thing is wild too

@tkinias

The rocket movement is surprisingly accurate, retro-rockets and all. And the seats rotate when the rocket lands on it's tail.

Having said that, it does have that stupid "ship belly is down" fallacy.
