I've been a big fan of Stone Temple Pilots since the early 90s -- I was 12 when their first record came out. And I loved how psychedelic they got with the next albums.

I saw them BRIEFLY years later at a free secret show on Miami Beach - my friend and I raced there last minute & caught maybe 4 songs. Still one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. BEYOND tight. Effortless.

These are my 24 favorite STP songs. They'd make a killer double album. 12 songs per disc.

@jake4480 STP has long held a spot in my heart. I feel Scott often get disrespected when it comes to retrospective memorializing, seems Cobain, Cornell, Staley and Bennington always seem to get acknowledged, but because Scott was known as an addict, he kinda gets swept under the rug, despite his legacy standing shoulder to shoulder with any of those mentioned.

I like your picks, though I did enjoy their ballad-y stuff too. Atlanta and Sour Girl make my list.

@jbwharris haha I agree. And for sure - Sour Girl is one of my favorites but I left it off cuz it's kinda sad haha. And yeah, Scott was a genius. Loved how he loved big band, some super jazzy stuff in STP too - I also love how he leaned into Zep later how he said the other guys got him into them. That DANCING DAYS cover I mean 🤯 also Bowie. Hickory Dichotomy is SO Bowie I love it 🤣 I'm not into Linkin Park (and Chester singing for them? Weird. I dunno.) Scott always said they wanted money, to keep going, but he was such a huge part of that band. Not the same without him. I did love Nirvana, AiC, but yeah STP lasted a bit longer than both - those Pearl Jam comparisons bugged me too. SUCH different bands. Smack is such a nightmare. Not many survive it. Mark Arm in Mudhoney, Trent in nin, Bowie and Iggy? Ray Charles? Not many.

@jake4480 [goes to open up the playlist thinking … this had better have fuckin’ Crackerman on it…]

[sigh of relief]

@skullvalanche YEP. The ONLY one from the first album I did. Perfect intro. Check the flow of this playlist, it works so well. Fully chronological too haha - and about an hour and a half. All bangers, in my opinion. They have some really wild hidden gems
