@uncomfyhalomacro I don't think any project I have contributed to has used it. Also seems kinda superfluos for language that have a canonical format and a formatting program to enforce it. For ny own project I don't really care because I can just change a few style mistakes myself before pushing a patch upstream.

@lhp i noticed some projects don't really have a formatter config e.g. .clang-format, rustfmt.toml.

is there an expectation that contributors of those projects follow a certain format?

how do they know if it's not a tab but 4 spaces? are those checked through review or the reviewer cares more about the code than how it was written?

👀 i just see many projects in my experience with formatters.

I just wish more editors had that one emacs feature that makes it guess relevant editor settings based on the existing code
