sidereal,

Any modern TV is just an enshittified computer plugged into a TV. You could just plug a normal computer into a big ass monitor, get some speakers, then you're off to the races but you still have adblock. Fuck a TV

CorvidCrone,

@sidereal my dad (working in computer systems) refused to get a TV when he moved back when I was a teenager. I'd spend summers with him, and we listened to audiobooks together and read a lot. It was very peaceful. And not having a TV became normal for me. Now, my parents have a media room with a monitor and old pc

@sidereal my next tv will be a high-def computer monitor. With everything streaming now there’s no reason to invite the privacy invasions that come with a “smart tv.”

@Hawaii @sidereal I agree with all the sentiments here, but I have a fuzzy understanding of why movie files off my NAS look great when streamed to my TV, but terrible on the high end monitor connected to my fast gaming PC. Is this common? Any particular causes I should be looking at?
