There need to be portability laws for email addresses. You know how cell phone companies are legally required to transfer your phone number if you ask? That, but for email. I'd have a much worse time losing my email address than my phone number.
@isaaclyman Problem with this is that email domains have reputation which you could undermine by porting out and then being a dick. I'm sure gmail already has a spammer problem, this would make it worse. I'm pretty glad this is not possible. You can set up a rule to forward or bounce everything.
