codemonkeymike,

Well, today is my first full work day I've committed to using the #HelixEditor as my main editor, and not opening VSCode!

So far, it's a little clumsy, but already seeing some workflow improvements. Just need to put in the reps!

@codemonkeymike <3 Helix. I've been on it for over a year now I think. Haven't looked back to Neovim.

codemonkeymike,

@btp Nice.. good to hear! I really tried with Neovim, but I just couldn't do it. Coming from VSCode, it's a huge shift.. but this actually feels do-able instead of impossible.

I miss the file tree.. but that's about it.

@codemonkeymike Yeah a file tree has been a commonly recommended extension/feature. They've been working on a plugin system, which I guess has been more complicated than expected, but in the works.

There are similarities with Vim/Nvim, but I really like the flow of "do this on that".

codemonkeymike,

@btp totally. And Id hate to see the plugin system turn helix into neovim. I like that it's a very "batteries included" and simple to set up.

But having a file tree would be handy to just visually help. Or create new files etc. But Ive been doing control z then lf. But it's a bit disconnected

@codemonkeymike :o <newfile> should create a new file ez pz.

codemonkeymike,

@btp true. But in what path?? Is there a shortcut to make it in current file folder

@codemonkeymike It creates it in the current directory if it's just the file name, you can also enter an absolute path.

codemonkeymike,

@btp I'll have to play around with that! That's when I miss it. If I need to create a sibling file in a folder. It even just see the siblings of the file I'm currently in. (which is prob not the root of the project)

@codemonkeymike There are also shell integrations. You can pipe shell output into the current buffer with ! or the insert-output command. Can also run ad-hoc shell commands with run-shell-command.

codemonkeymike,

@btp hmmm. Mad scientist thoughts lol
