    @lilithsaintcrow

    Thanks for the unfortunate reminder that I need to pull the two books I have listed direct on there.

    I'll never see a payout from them, since the threshold is so high, considering I stock on my own shop anyway.

    @lilithsaintcrow I wish I could be surprised by this! I was so excited for an alternative to Amazon that I bought a Kobo reader, downloaded the app, and bought a few books. The experience was notably worse than Kindle in a number of ways. I just don't understand how somebody can want to compete with a market leader and not try to be better for key audiences!

    @lilithsaintcrow you KNEW I was gonna ask what they screwed up, right?

    @lilithsaintcrow Ugh.

    I go direct whenever possible, but for every author who says they love Kobo promos, I hear three saying they're a pain.

    I won't set regional prices any more. That requires tracking currency fluctuations and ongoing price maintenance, and I can't afford that overhead with all my titles. Touching every book in every dashboard takes 10-12 frustrating, tedious, error-prone hours.

    Hilariously, and possibly a piece of what you are frustrated by, I didn't realize until this instant that they HAVE promotions. Hmm.

    @lilithsaintcrow But still good to talk about! I feel it aids other current or potential self-publishers to hear about the ups and downs of the process.

    @lilithsaintcrow @bioluminescently Based on other mutterings I had basically broken it down as Amazon (evil but worth it), Kobo (niche but worth it; plus I really like my reader and am therefore biased), D2D for everything else (when this all becomes relevant for me, which it won't be for months, if not longer). But there are enough weird deviations in my (small) sample set that it seems like the initial starting point should be considered a pot of spaghetti hurled wall-ward.

    @lilithsaintcrow @bioluminescently (Especially given the outsized role D2D has come to occupy. Seems like a great time- and hassle-saver, but I very much want to avoid the single-point-of-failure model.)
