Guess which kid was brown?

(We know the name of the Honor Student who was arrested and put in solitary confinement, and who they plan to file FELONY charges against because he REQUESTED COUNSELING BECAUSE HE WAS BEING BULLIED AT THE SCHOOL. The name of the kid who THREATENED TO MURDER JEWISH PEOPLE AT A SYNAGOGUE is being withheld "because he's a minor". Also, he was planning this BEFORE October 7th.)

Texas Observer This 11-Year-Old Brownsville ISD Honor Student Was Put in Solitary A fifth-grader reported being bullied by his principal. Five days later, he was hand- cuffed and detained. Eleven-year-old Timothy Murray has many trophies displayed in a row by the wall of his room. During a video call, he shows me what he’s won from science projects, chess competitions, and coding programs, and ends with the largest one in his col- lection—a three-tiered, star-studded trophy he won as grand champion of the Brownsville Independent School District Elementary Science Fair in November 2022. It seems almost as tall as his 4-foot-1-inch frame. He explains that the project measured safety factors when driving over the Golden Gate Bridge by changing variables of speed, mass, and the size of a vehicle. The project was the last one Timothy worked on with his father before his father died in April from multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer. His dad had been sick since Timothy was two, and family outings were often trips to the hospital. As his cancer spread, Timothy’s dad never tried to hide his sickness. Rather, he de- mystified the disease, explaining the causes and the symptoms, and preparing Timothy for his possible death.

@angiebaby my first reaction on hearing Timothy's story described in general terms by a coworker was "let me guess, he's not white, right?"

Just to be clear, though, we also know Timothy's full name because his family approached us and asked us to tell his story directly. I think that's an important detail, but it doesn't change your overall point.

The detail that stuck with me most from the update is how utterly fucked the school-to-prison pipeline is getting in that town. 76 fifth graders arrested by police this year. What in the hell on earth.

I hope that Timothy and his family can get the hell out of Texas as soon as possible.
That kid has a great future ahead of him if stays away from those #LOIQs and out of red states.
