SuperCam has chosen (directed by AEGIS or an Earth-based geologist?) to have a closer look at this group of smaller rocks, nestled among larger equally interesting-looking (to a Non-Geologist™) rocks.

cragsand,

@tom30519 It does kinda look like stromatolites (fossilized microorganisms) here on earth. I can see why it's an object of interest 🔍

Looks to me like fossilized ground meat 🙃 . It's a pity the laser didn't zap it. Would be nice to know how it smelt. 🍔

It should smell ok... after all, it has been in the freezer for a billion years or so! 🥶 🧊

If #NASA were to anthropomorphize like everything #AI, this is how they could be doing it (reality in parentheses):

"We've created a superhuman thing (#Perseverance), which was brought to Mars by a stork (SkyCrane) to live in frigid cold, without food (RTG), and which can:
• roam the planet (wheels)
• eat rocks (drill)
• see through the ground (RIMFAX)
• find interesting things (AEGIS)
• cook interesting things (w/ laser)
• smell them (spectral analysis)

• take videos of them flying
• stay with them in a loving relationship (well... ok)
• cooperate and coordinate with them to spot anything that moves (debris) or that looks interesting from the air
• get stuff they bring from afar to create a stash (core samples) and/or deliver them to you on a rocket, in case you want to keep them as souvenirs ().

We are a serious business, delivering goods on the ground anywhere in the solar system.

Results are available to anyone that cares, on Earth and beyond 👁️ 👁️ (er, soon).

Oh, wait! We also have another superhuman creature on Mars, that does about the same things, is equipped with a kitchen and sink, lives almost forever, and has enthusiastic fans on Earth, like the first one.

As a matter of fact, we can say that Mars is already occupied by live superhuman creatures * today* (and not just hallucinate it like a #SpaceKaren would), but don't fret.

• see in 3D, IR and UV and take beautiful pictures (ha!)
• work a microscope (PIXL etc) and a telescope (Supercam)
• identify and monitor celestial bodies and #solarocks from the other side of the solar system
• speak a clear, no-BS language you can understand
• never lie to you
• never pretend it knows everything
• wake up at night and do hard work
• give birth to flying creatures (#Ingenuity), and:
• help them fly in thin air
• communicate with them telepathically (UHF)

No human was harmed for them to get there, and they will never cause human extinction, meddle with elections or overthrow governments, because they are indeed humanity's (and kids') best friends."

This creature is very adept at many things!

Don't forget making oxygen out of (very) thin air (MOXIE), and seeing which way the (non-political) wind is blowing (MEDA).

If the two current active inhabitants of Mars were closer together and could collaborate, who knows what they might get up to! 😃

@tom30519
A coup d'état against the third of them, the one that flies? 😬

Oops, I forgot those other superhuman capabilities, yes:

• create O2 like a plant (MOXIE)
• feel the slightest breeze on its skin and see the changes in the colors of the sky with its multiple eyes (MEDA)

Unless Ginny can overcome the 45m no-fly zone restriction, there won't be much interaction with her co-residents beyond telepathy.

And anyway, she currently operates under the strict orders emanating from the rover, so no coup required at all!

Her ability to fly and see things from above is a useful skill that the others would want to benefit from, so friendly relations will no doubt continue.

@tom30519 That's a thorough analysis of the situation there 😀 👍 !
