We've also done a little bit of research testing of multicast vs unicast based on our POC IoT updater https://librecast.net/iotupd.html. Thanks to Fed4fire plus.

We'd like to do more research and measurements on that comparison in the future.

@strypey Multicast is how set top boxes do software updates in a controlled MAN environment. It's really smart.

@clacke @strypey @OlivierAuber and others did some interesting stuff with IPv4 multicast in the 1990s , but we also want IPv6 to proliferate.

I think there's some real potential for peer to peer applications as well.
