@rticks without wanting to support Trump myself. To me, as an uninformed onlooker, it seemed that the election was already lost when it was Clinton vs. Trump. (And I still don't quite understand why the president in the US is so powerful in the first place.)
Fascism is ultimately about weaponizing the idea of the nation state for a few; to me reaganomics was fascism but no one including reagan knew it at the time
Fox News proves that unlimited freedom of the press and unlimited free speech do NOT work, not when people like fox and assange can knowingly lie, so no, fascism is not about restricting the press
@rticks When I'm thinking about #fascism then I have to think about how critics of the fascist government were silenced, to be able to stay in power. Here in Germany we had book burnings during the Nazi regime. In Russia today you see similar tendencies, where it's difficult for people and press to oppose the war in Ukraine. In school we've been taught that a free press is the fourth pillar of democracy.
@rticks but I totally agree that with the age of the internet and social media freedom of press/speech/expression got to a new level. And we seemingly haven't learned to handle this power as a society yet. Which leads to people abusing their reach to spread hate and lies, for more reach and power.
