@elduvelle I'm glad it doesn't include boosts. On Mastodon, they say to include hashtags and boost other people's posts. Those allow more people to see a post, but they don't do much to increase the chances your own followers will see your posts. I think this contributes to the "yelling into the void" feeling here. I click the bell on a lot of accounts, which allows me to interact with the same people, and make friends. (I also wish Mastodon had "groups" to mix with a smaller pool of friends.)
@elduvelle I make an effort to interact more with people who interact with me. But to improve the new user experience would take new features. For example, I don't want a corporation to decide what I see, but I don't want a straight timeline either. I want to set importance levels for who I follow, a simple interface to define your own algorithm. A way to make groups or forums to encourage group discussions, which can be difficult on Mastodon, would be nice, too. But that's a lot to ask.
@Jamellica these are really good points. On our server @jonny is looking into making a sort of user-defined algo like this. I’m sure they’ll be interested by your ideas, especially the possibility of choosing importance levels for specific followees - I don’t think we had thought about doing this!
