Remember #Patreon set up new on-by-default sharing of your account information with every other Patreon user (and maybe the world)? Remember people posting how to turn it off, because they were using confusing language/dark patterns to try to #trick you into oversharing?
I got the "welcome to the new Patreon" today, and ... they've turned the "Community Profile" setting back on after I deliberately turned it off.
@cazabon I had thought the new Patreon logo looked like a slime. This particularly slimy behaviour from the owners is really fitting that new branding! So a nice slow-clap-kudos for telling on themselves!
@cazabon Thanks very much for this. I read through the description and one of the details is your tier. Why should the entire community know how much my contribution to a specific creator is? This is unacceptable.

@cazabon Thanks! On another note, the #Patreon redesign sucks in general. I will see a bunch of old posts from one creator before I see anything new from another. The feed is dead.
I gotta say, they really sh*t the bed on this #redesign. It's #TERRIBLE. It's huge, it's #slow, and like way too many new designs these days, it wastes an inordinate amount of the available screen space, so it's hardly showing you any actual content at all.
The old feed was approximately 237 times more useful than the new design. Give or take.
Btw: I just heard from a user that when Patreon sends out the email notification about this new data visibility feature, they reset the setting to Yes I.e. visoble.
So if you've already set it to No, check it again after Patreon notifies you.
@cazabon there are a few creators I'd like to support... but they all use Patreon, and the current decline of the service, paired with this enshittification, does not sit with me well... nor does it move me to consider signing up for Patreon...

Turned it back off, and... wow, a friend wasn't kidding about the new site running heavy as hell, my puny old computer started overclocking & overheating immediately on loading the site. I'm glad not to have much of anything to do with it other than sponsoring a couple of people.

@cazabon Mine was still off. Either it never actually processed that you turned it off because they botched the code handling that, or people who immediately did (I did mine like a day or two later) got reset because of botching the launch of the setting.
Both definitely fit Hanlon's razor, even if the initial stuff wasn't. Fuck them for making this decision to begin with, but I don't think this is an active case of malice here.

It would be interesting to read views on best #payment options now for #OpenSource projects, creators & causes - & what the challenges are? What happened to #LiberaPay, website says it has just 8 patrons of Mastodon? Any issues with #Wise? Many organisations provide bank details on the web, maybe simplest? @Gargron @Liberapay
