Can anyone better versed in Mastodon explain why I can look at someone's feed if I search for them while logged in, but if I look at their page directly on their server, there will be posts that I can't see while logged in?

I can't work it out.

Does this question even make sense?

Basically, if I I look at the profile of someone I don't follow while logged in to my server, I can see some posts.

If I go directly to their server - where obviously I'm not logged in - I can see more posts that don't show when I'm logged in.

It's not a permissions or audience thing, I don't think. All of this person's posts (that I can see) are public.

I'm assuming it's a federation thing, but can't work it out. Surely you should be able to view all public posts whether logged in or not.
