@TexasObserver This shortage wouldn't exist if the Texas prison system had air-conditioned facilities for guards to work in. But no, AC is too humane for prisoners, and we can't be soft on crime now, can we? This is insane.

A majority of those incarcerated in the state (and their guards) have no air-conditioning — a fact not unrelated to the officer retention and recruiting problem in Texas prisons.

Prisoners are dying, the State says it's under control.

No A/C for prisons because that would be "soft on crime?"
